Ski Argentina and I need input on West Can resorts!

Hello All -

First time posting on Ski Diva... had a great vacation in Argentina this summer. 81 fresh snow first 2 days at Cerro Bayo, and then followed up 110cm at Chapelco, along with other hills, great food, WOW wine, amazing Guides, amazing skiing... it's all coming back to me.. and all in August!

In any case, does anyone have opinions on Big White vs Silver Star, and Sun Peaks. It is for my husband and I, and the window is Christmas time.... My husband is an strong intermediate, I am advanced, and puddle my way around - love powder / bowls, off piste (too much S.A. skiing in past 2 years!).

I am doing Powder Hwy tour in Feb, and these resorts are not on itinerary.

Hello fellow Ontarian, welcome to the board. As for the Canadian west I haven't skied Big White, but the other two are great. We've a Diva from Calgary on the board, so she should be able to tell you more about Big White. For pricing check out the SkiCan website and get on their mailing list. We just got a flyer with deals only available till October 31st.
As for Silver Star and Sun Peaks, both great places with lots of snow usually. Sun Peaks is close to Kamloops if you get board with mountain life and need some city. Silver Star is over by Kelowna, so winery tours could be added to your trip. And you could actually ski both places as they are only about 2 hours apart. When we went we stayed with friends in Kamloops and drove to both.
So you went to Argentina - HPSC trip??

Hello! I think after speaking with friends, etc, we have decided Big White, and will a day over to Silver Star - so I will let you know how Big White is!
HPSC = ? Argentina was brilliant - as was Chile!

HPSC - High Park Ski Club?? I've a friend that was an instructor there. Since left and gee went to Big White duh!! You'll love it!! If you are ever heading to Tremblant or East of TO, let me know, well do an Ontario Ski Diva day!! (We have a few others in Ottawa and Montreal!)

Hello -

HPSC - I have a friend Ken teaching there. I believe they went to either Portillo or Termas de Chillan and stayed put for a week. We went to 5 hills - including Termas and Portillo. We also went to Corralco - opened for the twelve of us in a group. WOW. As well as La Parfva and Valle Nevado. All hills in Chile have non existant lines at the lifts, and the off piste is ... just there... no hiking. In Argentina we were at 4 resorts. You literally ski where you want to, and we had so much snow. We were with a company called Dream Ski Adventures. Small company, max 10 / group - guided all the time - they know the hills, and a lot of fun, food and laughter. I am doing west with them in February - Fernie, Red, Red Cat, Whitewater, Castle, and the back to Canmore.
When I get to the send pics stage - I will make another attempt.
Ontario Ski Diva day sounds great. Although - sunny, warm - expected temp of 20 - 22 today? Water skiing? In any case, we can also be proud that a fellow Ontarian, Matt Morison, has acheived 6th at the World Cup Snowboard GS in Austria yesterday. He arrived in Austria on Tuesday after a slight injury. He was working at 70% per his coach. Not bad for a 20 year old trainee from Oshawa Ski Club - all 300' of it!
