Ski Area Blowing up??????

Ok...so I'm watching this movie right now on Lifetime and apparently this ski area in California where the skiers are skiing on a dormant volcano (dormant for 200 years) that suddenly starts to erupt.

Apparently 2 honeymooners just got swallowed up...right down the middle of a black diamond run!

Is this possible? Anyone ever ski on a Volcano? Do you feel the shocks? This freaks me out! Right up there with being killed in a Tsunami, which is virtually impossible in Colorado.....thank goodness! :becky:

Omigod I'm such a ski dork -- as soon as I read this I had to run and turn it on, just in case I could see people skiing! :becky:

Here's the movie description:

Volcano: Fire on the Mountain

No one believes a geologist ( Dan Cortese ) who predicts volcanic eruptions will strike a packed ski resort.

Sounds great!!!!

Mt. St. Helen's used to be a legit ski area, elevation was something like 9,000+ ft----before the 5/80 BLOW. HAD to have been pre-shocks on that mountain - er, volcano. Does anyone know if the skiing aspect on the mountain lasted through the 79-80 ski season? For years, I had a Rand McNally that even showed it on the map.

Hood's a dormant volcano. No activity there in awhile. How about Rainier? (no skiing there, but a volcano that's long overdue to become active again)

It's a pretty cheesy movie. But that only makes it better!!!!

I've always been a sucker for volcanoes, too. :becky:

It is cheesy!!! That's why I like it!

Ok....2 thing:
1) they are all on straight skis, but there are also snowboarders...so I'm wondering how old this puppy is!
2) There's an AWFUL lot of furry colors!
3) I have not seen 1 helmet! That's ok....it would just be hotter when you fall into the volcano! :becky:

I almost went skiing when I was in Hawaii on my honeymoon. Mauna Kae, on the Big Island
There's no ski lift so you have to access it with a 4wd. Elevation is a bit over 13,000 ft. IIRC their ski season lasts from Nov to June ish.
We didn't have 4WD and were so busy doing the diving and other stuff, we didn't take the time to get a guide and ski.
Wanna guess how many times I wish I'd done it? I mean, who gets a chance to ski in Hawaii!!?

I'm such a sucker for cheesy ski movies. Any other cheesy movie and it gets turned off quickly. But somehow the fact that they are skiing makes the plot unimportant. I have two totally cheesy movies from Netflix right now.

Seriously, I cannot count how many times I've been on the Big Island, and I never ever even thought to go skiing. :( All those missed opportunities! I'm definitely adding it to my list for the next trip there.

Ok......there's always a pregnant lady and a teen who doesn't have his driver's license in these things...

It's a requirement, doncha know?

That and the mayor who says, "We can't close the (ski area/beach/etc.); we don't want to cause a panic! Do you know how much money we'd lose?"
