Notes: Of all the skis I've purchased, the Bro was the one that intrigued me the most and yet was the one that took the most time for me to pull the trigger. The things that concerned me were stiffness, and versatility for my day to day skiing in Michigan, even though it was/is my intent to make this my primary travel East and West ski.
The chats I had with Pat, Chad and Ron brought a rest to my concerns.
Next question was Bindings. I had decided to put Jesters on these Bros because of the width of the binding, and its compliment to the width of the Bro's, however, after some tweeking and other stuff that enters a Gear Ho's mind, The Bro's were mounted with Dukes. (Review of the Dukes will follow an actual AT experience with them)
Whiteroom was especially helpful with binding information, and mounting for me, not to mention putting the tune on them that was recommended by Tryrone Shoelaces.
Maiden voyage on the Bros was on my 375 ft vert hills here in Michigan, which is fun and interesting on a 32M TR ski!!!
First impressions: Very good workmanship. Wow, they weren't kidding when they said this ski would handle hard pack, and feel like a freight train. I couldn't get the Grin off my face!!!!:D
Trip to the mountain, Abasin. I've skied Abasin on my Eos, Wave Spice and Blue House skis in the past, all of which were skied in different conditions, but none of them were quite as much fun as the Bros. We had some new snow, and fierce wind, enhanced by some phenomenal company.
Among the things that really struck me with these skis was the stability, and inspiration of confidence. I didn't hesitate on the cornice at Abasin, however, my technique could use some help.
Another thing that impressed me was the ability to make medium turns. Short turns are doable, though take more technique and effort, but medium and long radius turns came easily, with an edge to edge transition that is impressive for a ski with these dimensions.
Bumps: Bumps are something I have been improving on, though I've not mastered them by any means. However, I took the Bro's on Palli as well as a few other bump runs, and though the 99 waist is not ideal for bumps, I really enjoyed them, and would definitely take them in the bumps again.
The 174 Soft Bro has far more pluses than minuses, and now that you know how much I love it, let me share the minuses.
Minuses:
- I like the top sheets on Bklyn's better than mine. Reason, Mine look too nice and I was hoping to put a bunch of stickers on them. Bklyn has the plainer version which is screaming to be stickered up!!
- I was hoping that they would automatically make me look as good as Tyrone Shoelaces when I take the leap. Witness' say......Not so much
