Seeking Advice on Solomon Scarlets....

ski now work later

I am considering buying a pair of Solomon Scarlet skis to add to my quiver in time to use for some spring skiing. Here's my dilemma.... The ski is offered in a 154 length and the next size up is 164. I am just under 5'7", 142 lbs., intermediate - advanced skiier, but find it easier to ski in a shorter ski with a smaller turning radius. I think the 164s will be too long and cumbersome for me, and the turning radius is larger than I want. I have been advised that since it's a fat ski (92w), that will compensate for being a little short. I want the skis to take out West for powder days and soft snow. They are twin tips which will be fun for skiing backwards and park stuff, and I figure they'll also be fun for skiing slush.

Do you think the 154s will work for me? I know the 164s won't, so it's a matter of buying the 154s or nothing. And I couldn't find them to demo anywhere in Western MA or Vermont (not even sold here) or in Big Sky last month, so demo-ing is not an option, alas....

I just went to the solomon website. The 154cm will be perfect. It's all about the amount of surface area and pounds per square inch. You will like the 12 meter radius too!!

I just bought a pair of the Scarlets and I LOVE them!! I had them out at Squaw this past week (65-70 degrees everyday....can't get much more spring-like than that!) and they were perfect on everything from hard pack in the AM to slush in the PM.

I am on the 154, but I am 5'1" and 115 pounds. They stand exactly as tall as I am. I def couldn't go any longer...but they are surprisingly maneuverable (and soft), so if you're used to a longer ski, you might want to think about the 164.
