Season Passes 20/21 (other than Epic and IKON)

Loon just put out their new pass, and it is midweek only! Looks like no option to get a weekend pass there now if you didn't already purchase a New England Pass previous to June 15'th. Presumably they'll sell day tickets as capacity allows, but Loon is always quite crowded on weekends so who knows.

Very interesting. Boyne Resorts is being very creative indeed. Feels like a hybrid between what VR did at Perisher and what was done at Thredbo. Perisher prioritized Epic passholders and didn't have any limits midweek by mid-season. Thredbo forced everyone to buy day tickets, with heavy discounts for passholders (money fully refunded before the season started). Especially if people who buy a Loon Midweek pass eventually get a discount on weekend day tickets.

I’m at least happy they are doing individual things for areas versus a one size fits all approach!

Clearly Boyne Resorts understands that New England, Michigan, and Big Sky need to be handled differently.

Boyne Mountain season passes are going to be sold for a month this fall: Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. No reservation system planned. Presumably will be the same for Boyne Highlands. The FAQ for the Worry Free Pass Assurance is pretty long and seems to cover a lot of details.

You can get the Indy Pass for free if you buy a Suicide 6 pass by December. If you live close by Woodstock, VT a nice deal. Check the S6 website.

That's not the way I read what's on the S6 website, but it's a bit confusing. The Indy Pass is $129 instead of $199 when someone has a "full" season pass from any one of the Indy locations. It sounds like buying the S6 season pass before Dec. 1 is the way to qualify. (578 - 449 = 129) Here's the text:

For this year, all of our early season passes (PURCHASED BEFORE 12:00 AM DEC 1, 2020) can include an Indy Pass - A $199 value!! This is the largest collective ski pass in the world, offering more resorts than the IKON or EPIC passes. With the Indy Pass (just $129 & $69 for kids) you'll get two free lift tickets to EACH of over 50 resorts, totaling in more than 100 days of skiing and riding.

Al of Arapahoe Basin announced their plans today. Hope it works out.

http://arapahoebasin.blogspot.com/2020/09/season-passes-and-lift-tickets-2020-21.html

-Reservations will not be required for Arapahoe Basin Season Pass and Any Day Pass holders. The number of passes sold will be limited.

-Ikon and Mountain Collective Pass holders are welcome and are encouraged to ski and ride A-Basin. Access details are still to be determined.

-Lift tickets will be available every day. Arapahoe Basin will require all lift tickets to be purchased in advance, online through our website. The number of tickets sold each day will be variable to reduce peak visitation periods.

Sugar Bowl season pass sales have been strong enough that they aren't available at the moment. Might be available again later, but might not. Sugar Bowl doesn't want to implement a reservation system. Sugar Bowl is in the Tahoe area, which means it's near the VR resorts Northstar, Heavenly, and Kirkwood and those will require reservations for Epic passholders.

"September Update:Pass Sales Paused
Sugar Bowl Friends:

Sugar Bowl has decided to pause sales of all 2020/21 season passes in order to provide the safest possible ski and snowboard experience for guests and staff this winter.

. . .
For season passes, the situation is more complex. There are essentially two options: 1) limit the number of passes sold, and/or 2) require daily passholder reservations with a limit on how many passholders can visit the resort each day.

Recently, neighboring resorts announced their plan to implement the passholder reservation option. In contrast, at Sugar Bowl – a smaller, independent and nimble company – we believe a limit on pass sales is a better approach for our customers, while still allowing us to stay within our safe, comfortable capacity every day and to maintain adequate social distancing between guests and staff at our pinch points near lifts and lodges. That said, even with a cap in sales, we cannot entirely rule out the possibility of also implementing a passholder reservation system. Pausing sales now, however, gives us the potential opportunity to avoid that scenario.

Sugar Bowl season passes were available starting in March. Sales have been surprisingly strong, pacing faster than expected this summer. We’re using the word “pause” to describe our stop in season pass sales because it may turn out that, after further analysis and consultation with our local and county government partners, we have a little more space to add a few more passholders. We encourage you to keep checking your email, visit our website and follow our social media channels for the latest information.

We recognize that this news may be disappointing to those who intended to purchase a pass but have not yet had the means to do so. We did not make this decision lightly and the financial consequences to our business are significant. However, we cannot lose sight of our guiding philosophy, which is to provide memorable outdoor experiences while embracing our shared responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19. Protecting the health and safety of the guests, staff and local communities we serve will always be our top priority.

Jackson Hole has taken season passes off sale until Oct. 5. The 7-day and 10-day pass holder usage are gone for good. Perhaps the usage is harder to predict, or more likely to be bought by travelers. Ikon and MCP are still available and promoted on the JH website.

JH has announced that MCP holders will not need to make a reservation. No statement yet about Ikon.

Wolf Creek is continuing it's fiercely independent tradition. Here's a summary of their plans for season passes and day tickets.

Unlike Vail Resorts, which last week announced a reservation system that requires pass holders to book high-season ski days well in advance, Wolf Creek is adjusting its pricing

Solitude uses Ikon as the "season pass" for locals. In addition, there is a season pass for parking. That was implemented for the first time for the 2019-20 season. No mention on the Solitude website yet about making reservations.

I like hearing about the situation in other regions or countries any time. That's how my bucket list has grown. And not just for destination resorts. I'm actually more curious about the less well known ski areas.

Well that's good to know - I don't post as much about the Pyrenees as I did about the Alps back during my Munich days, but happy to share...and glad someone else cares :-)
