Ski Diva Extraordinaire
I have a boot question. Saturday my right boot gave me a nasty bruise while skiing, which resulted in such pain that I could hardly ski the rest of the day and the next. I'll give the details, and am wondering if there is anything I can do to the boot to keep this from happening again. (It still hurts, and I have a race tomorrow.)
I'm in Technica Attiva Flames, bought this season in December. I've skied on these maybe 20 times. They fit. I have custom footbeds. But my feet are difficult to work with, and so my bootfitter and I have been tweaking the boots one factor at a time. Some liner work and one blown out spot on the shell have gotten rid of the hotspots that have been there all along.
The extremely painful spot that appeared on Saturday is new; I've felt nothing there before. The bruise was right at the bend in the foot, where the top of the foot and the front of the shin come together. This is where the boot cuff bends forward over the foot part of the boot. The hot spot was just barely up on the shin, right at that flex point. After this occurred, I couldn't put any pressure on the fronts of my boots; the pain was intense. I unbuckled everything but the power strap and the toe buckle and skied as well as I could for the rest of the day. It was worse on Sunday.
What can have made this happen? Is this common? Has this happened to you? How can I keep it from happening again?

A function of settling in/packing out? Wish I had better advice to give you at this point, as I'm in the same boot.....back to the fitter, huh? Darn. This was really an acute event? I can't imagine you not fitting the tongue into the shell properly. I'm in the same boot, which is why I replied. Do you have high-volume feet? I know you probably mentioned whether or not in another thread, but I've forgotten. Seems to me that Tec's are not that great for people who have either high arches, high insteps or, worse, both. Hate to think that you'd have to completely start over at this point in your season. Something's doing a major low shin-bang to you (no duh/obviously). The only real solution based on your description sounds like shaving down some of the liner there - but this bruising seems to be coming from the shell itself. Good luck. Keep us posted.
