Scott gloves = WARM!

I had an old pair of Scott gloves that I rescued from a bargain bin years ago---and wore them down to duct-tape status after 8+ seasons. Warmest gloves I ever owned. They put my (newer) Marmots to shame. Not a big mitten fan here, but will relent when absolutely necessary.

I got DH a pair of Scott gloves a year ago, and he gave them the big thumbs up (and occasionally offered them to me as back-up), so this year was my turn to get same and retire the old ones. Hooray! Really, incredibly warm for gloves, and they dry out quickly. Good gauntlet with pull, they snug up well and accommodate liners for the coldest days.

Currently contemplating a pair of Scott mittens, available through eBay seller levelninesports - if as warm as the gloves, these could be the last word (for me, anyway).

So a big  to Scott gloves!

I totally agree! I just bought a pair of Scott Mittens, and I love them. My hands are always freezing, but when I wore the mittens at Tremblant w/o the warmers, they weren't cold at all. I found them at Sports Authority, in the Junior Boys section.

^^^ Good to know this re the mittens. Wish I had them like right NOW, because I'm going out tomorrow on what promises to be a VERY cold day (probably +-0 F) - this definitely is where I switch from gloves to mittens. Local ski shop here carries the gloves, and I think I'm going to go buy at least 2 more pairs when they go on sale in mid-late Feb.

I have a pair of the more spring type leather gloves scott sold several years ago. Love them still wear them holes and all. I purchased a pair of what I think were nylon gloves last season at deep discount. The best I can say is that they were entertaining at the bar when I could drink a beer and break the ice mold of curved hand they left when I took them off. There were a couple of times when I forgot to take them out of the pack and found them frozen into small crunched hands the next morning. They just didn't stay dry or dry out for days.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I just bought a pair of Scott mittens. the women's Locket Mittens and my hands were cold in single digits temperatures(5F). So I am looking at Black Diamond mittens. The swany is out of the question(for me) because it does not have a very long gauntlet.

Wore these for 4 days running Sat-Tues with glove liners, summit temps were -10 in the a.m., never got above +5-10 all day until Tues. Guess it depends.....did you wear liners? I don't use heat packs but the mittens do have a pocket for it.

Well, I would also suspect that Scott has some fantastic gloves/mittens and some that aren't quite so warm. Maybe it's just a matter of the different models?

I tried mittens for one hour at the local ski shop and it was one of the warmest ones. But I was also looking for a space for handwarmers and a "thing to tie around the wrist"(forgot the word). They were not warm enough with liners in very cold temps(Wednesday). When I used the mittens I realized that putting the handwarmers in the handwarmers slot is not warm enough for me so I have to have them against my skin. I also tend to cool them off:noidea: I just wished you could demo them like the skis! I still like them a lot for temps 15F+.

Really? I had a pair of Marmot ones for 3 years, LOVED THEM so much, and then they disappeared! Now I'm onto a pair of OR ones with huge gauntlets, but they aren't the same.

Burton gloves SUCK, by the way.

Really. Marmot Randonee. Had a goofy, stiff, synthetic material for the gripper/palm that was weird, too. We both had them. Not cheap. I ski-swapped mine. DH kept his for spring skiing. This is a notoriously cold mountain. In single digit temps and below, I'm in mittens and glove liners. If it hits teens, I can manage gloves. Model is Scott Fuel. No bells and whistles but much lower price ($30 retail). Randonees were 50 on sale. Mittens are Scott Locket. Was 10 below when DH wore his (with glove liners, I think this is an important addition).

Bottom line: different strokes
But I'd have never put up a glowing review if I didn't have sufficient time to test several models in brutal conditions.
And, for me, there's a price point. I'm sure there are lots of terrific $100+ gloves out there that do the job. Not my reality.

... Burton gloves SUCK, by the way.

Well, what do you expect from a SNOWBOARD company???

I have an ancient pair of Grandoe gloves that came with different sets of zip-in liners. They are duct-taped at a couple of places, but they are still the best gloves I've ever had. I did ante up for a pair of mittens last year up in Calgary. I was working a skeleton race and the temps all week were in the -20C range before we counted in the winds. I went to the little shop at the bottom of the track (largely a boarder store) and bought a pair of BURTON mittens that had a spot for handwarmers. The race committee provided handwarmers, so I was able to stay not cold. Now, I won't wear them for anything but really cold weather - I'll stick to my Grandoes for 99% of my outdoor endeavors.

Ha! Anything is possible. Ask your dad about the Salomon 444. He'll know what it was  It was NOT a ski or boot. Ask him about Nordica----boots, period. Or Scott. Poles. Period. It's amazing how much the industries have "morphed" over the decades!

Funny... He's skis in Nordica boots, and uses Scott poles.

Salomon 444... Binding? Hah.

Hey, I remember those 444s... yes, they are bindings. I had a pair of those at one time.
How many of you remember skis that were measured for you by putting your arm up in the air and you were supposed to be able to touch the tip of the ski with your hand??? Double-lace boots??? Cable bindings???

Have some in my garage! Not originally ours, just "collectibles." DH started with lace boots, who knows what kind of bindings. Hey, we're totally hijacking this thread, which is about done anyway. Why don't we start a "retro" thread. Epic's got one, it's a hoot. Found pics of some of my old skis and boots on it and even saved a few of those pics. Some of us undoubtedly remember some really strange stuff!
