Here's my very first attempt at a ski review... I sure do hope it makes sense!!
About me: 5'3", 129 lbs intermediate-advanced (depends on the day!) I'll ski pretty much all runs on the mountain, just not always with perfect technique! I mainly stick to diamond runs, but love the blue cruiser runs too.
About the runs: I was skiing at Blue Mountain in Ontario. In the morning it was mainly groomed conditions with some ice patches. By the afternoon of course there was a lot of crud. We did ski some glades too.
The ski: Salomon X-Wing 8, 150 length, 11.7 radius 118-71-99
First impression, they were great skis for me. They were easy to control and loved to go fast. I could keep up to the teenage boys (who are high school racers) with these skis on my feet. I could do great carving turns with medium sized turns, and they were quick to respond when doing shorter radius. Once or twice I caught some air just hopping from one turn into the other. I didn't really try longer turns because that's all I can really do with style with my own long (for me) skis; I was too excited about being able to do quality short-medium carving turns, that that's what I stuck with pretty much every run. (For those that read/responded to my plea for help regarding my bad habit... I wasn't doing it all with these skis.)
The skis are softer, which I like because I'm not super strong(again my aggressiveness depends on the day). They held on ice pretty well, but I'd say not quite as good as other skis I've tried (the Rossi Attraxion V's). They were okay in the crud, but again, not as great as other skis I've tried. That could have been due to the shorter length of the skis?
Hmm... what else....I like the look of them. They are men's skis, so they have the typical racer ski look to them, but I liked the way the orange strip shimmered in the sun. (Hey, what can I say, I'm a chick and while colour isn't why I'd buy the skis, it does help!:p ) Overall I liked these skis, but I'm not sure if I love them just yet. (I'm a comparison shopper to the extreme!
