Rushing Christmas.

The LL Bean Christmas catalog came in the mail today! I don't know about you, but I hate how retailers push the season. I know they rely on Christmas for a good part of their sales, but give me a break! It's September 13! I almost wish there was a law -- no Christmas stuff before December 1! Call me Scrooge, but it's just too much for way too long.

SkiDiva the Christmas catalogue for Sears Canada came out in August. They call it the Wish Book. Usually its this week, but for some reason it came in August. Like I want to look at heavy clothes and snow blowers in August or September even!!

I start getting various Christmas catalogs (Current, for instance) in JULY. I don't mind getting stuff in September, but I do trash it until November. One thing about catalogs, you know there'll always be another.

Oh man, I hadn't thought about Christmas at all yet this year. I'm not looking forward to the coming seasonal onslaught. I start my Christmas shopping around Decemeber 20th and finish it shortly thereafter.

I think what bugs me most is that it would arrive on Rosh Hashanah, a very important Jewish holiday! After all, not everyone celebrates Christmas, though after living in New England for 26 years, I've come to accept that this fact is frequently forgotten....

I started my shopping months ago!! I plan to be done by Nov! I am too busy in Dec. to get it done.

I usually have all my shopping done at this time of year, but this year is a bit different.
My niece and nephew are grown up and the things they want/need are changing, which puts me in a different zone for gift purchases.

I have to say, I love seeing the Christmas catalogues, but I wish I didn't see them until after Holloween.

Now that the birthdays are done, I can start at least thinking about Christmas gifts. The men in my life are getting difficult to buy for, so I need to start soon.

It seems to me like all the holidays are rushed. I dunno if this is the case in other diva's areas, but I've always been amazed by the fact that there is always a holiday being featured in drug stores and grocery stores. An aisle with candy in special packages that are marked with symbols of the holiday, specialty tablecloths, cups, decorations, etc.

As soon as Labor Day passes, the Halloween stuff is on display. As soon as Halloween's done, it's Thanksgiving on display. Out goes Thanksgiving, in comes Christmas. As soon as Christmas is over, it's New Year's products. Exit New Year's, enter Valentine's Day. From Valentine's Day we go on to Easter, followed immediately by Memorial Day. Out goes Memorial Day, in comes Fourth of July, and as soon as that's passed, we go right back to Labor Day.

A lot of the Memorial Day-Fourth of July-Labor Day stuff is the same (red, white, and blue, or has flags on it) , but some of it's specially marked. Sometimes they don't even wait for one holiday to pass before putting up things for the next. Halloween things have been on the shelves since July!

Don't go near Costco. They've had the Halloween stuff and Christmas trees out, since mid August. Back to school stuff was out in early July. Like you say num - once Halloween is over the Mall redecorates for Christmas. The carols start and Santa arrives mid November. Remember our Thanksgiving in Canada is October 8th this year. So that stuff has been out in the stores too. Just after New Years the Valentine candy is out. Then depending on when easter is - just after Valentines day the bunnies are out. I'm really glad that I'm not in retail.

I was flipping through the Pottery Barn catelog yesterday thinking, "Ha. SkiDiva doesn't know what she's talking about with all the Christmas merchandising already showing up in catelogs!" Of course, I was flipping back to front...and by the time I got to the front, lo and behold: Christmas merchandising! And Halloween stuff, too. Yeesh.

The Christmas Ads are FREAKING ME OUT!!!!!! That means the wedding is here!!!!!! OMG!

I'm a nervous wreck!

If they had just done what SkiDiva had said, and waited until December 1st, I would have been fine! No reminders til the day!

But now I'm freaking!
