Help Needed: Roxy Broom Stix length question

Hi Ladies!!

Okay, I'm know I seem schizophrenic, but please bear with me. After researching more... and listening to two folks at the ski shop who seemed to know what they were doing... and observing what the ski instructors are skiing on out here... I'm starting to lean towards the Roxy Broom Stix. Prior to this, I was thinking about the Atomic Sugar Mama or the Roxy Joyrider. I'm an aggressive skier, probably level 8 or 9, who loves bumps, but needs an all mountain ski because my telemarker hubby won't do the bumps with me... it's a solo mission. I'm 5'4, 105lbs.

Anyways, I found a screaming deal on a pair of Roxy Broom Stix demos online... but they are 162. I usually ski on something around 150 (habit, I'm light, and I have found I have more fun in the bumps on sorter skis... at least I did a six years ago when I bought my last skis). Unfortunately I can't find them to demo here- only one shop has them and they are a 174 and I know that is too long for me. Do you think I can handle them (the 162)... or is that too long for me?

Thanks!!

Since these are a twin they will ski shorter than the stated length. I think they'd be fine.

just a quick review on those skis and a note on length. this years roxy broomstix are an awesome, fun bump and cruiser ski. I spent all day at loveland on them on packed powder and a chopped up crud. On the groomed runs they were easy to turn and felt very solid. In the bumps they were fantastic. They did not hold a good edge on icier stuff and in crud they were not heavy enough to plow through any of it. Last years broomstix are horrible. I spent two runs on them (similar conditions) and they just would not finish a turn to save their life. For bumps, light powder and park the old broomstix is maybe ok but still one of my least favorite skis that year, just a mushy weak ski in my opinion. If you are going to do the broomstix I would highly recommend this years model instead and go with the 155.

You are so right. I actually found a pair of Broom Stix in 162 to demo today (and a few others). They were fun, but as soon as you hit some ice.... they sucked hard. They also felt big to me... maybe they would have behaved better in a shorter length. Alas, I may never know.

The guy in the shop said that he thinks (based on what i tried and what I thought of them) that I would love the Volkl Aura. I'm afraid to even try them because I don't have the budget for them and there don't seem to be any deals to be had on them.

did you get to try the dynastar legend? the aura is pretty stiff. A lot of the ladies here love love love it but I have never been on it (gasp). I agree with the suggestion of a stiffer twin tip for you but maybe in the 80 to 88 mm waist category.
