Reviving my love of skiing - looking for advice on skis to buy

Being able to test out a friend's Nordica Santa Ana's and Black Crows Captis Birdies was a rare opportunity last season, thanks to an adjustable binding system. It cost about $20 ($30?) in a ski shop to get them adjusted to my boots.

I'm still of the mindset that if you tried the Wild Belle and liked it, I'd pick that over a ski I've never tried before... of course depending on the condition of the skis and how "used" they are. There's been loads of skis I thought I'd like and I didn't care for. Then there were skis that were never on my radar that I ended up loving. Poles can be found on the cheap and don't impact my enjoyment of skiing as much as my skis.

If you decide to buy the BPs used just be aware that they have gone through quite a few changes in the last few years, I loved my first ones then hated the next model, they then made them a bit friendlier the next season and now for the 2025 model they are different again. I've just got up so my brain isnt quite awake enough but perhaps @SnowHot could jump in and elaborate further.
Whew, I was just talking to someone about the different iterations of Black Pearl.
I loved the earlier generations but they also went through some growing pains and almost made them "inaccessible" for a few years, quite stiff and required the skiers attention 100% of the time.
The newest version that is coming out for 2025 is really nice.
Quick turn initiation, solid feeling under foot and very well donse.

Just writing back to confirm, the plane has finally landed, haha - I bought the Atomics! I think either ski would have been a good choice. I'm happy with the choice of Atomic in that I think they will support me developing my skills and there is reassurance in buying new from our local shop where I know everything is taken care of and I can go back if there's a problem - that's of extra value in my situation, being still in the process of getting up to date on modern equipment.

In any case, you all gave me so much good advice and I learned so much through this process. Thank you - I'm very grateful to this community! :grouphug:

haha, yep! I think I’m a prime target to be influenced - already have started down that path. Last year I finally replaced my descente ski pants that I had literally had since HIGH SCHOOL

Boots first!! If your boots don't fit you won't be happy and maybe not even being skiing. Find a good boot fitter in the area. A fitter, not a sales person.

We have a section in the Gearpedia section on just how a boot fit should go.

And welcome to the forum!!
