Ski: Dynastar Exclusive Pro Rider (166)

Specs: 128/100/118

Conditions: The wettest snowstorm Utah has seen in basically forever. Hahaha. Thick, wet, highly compactable snow over 2+ weeks of compacted snow/moguls.

DISCLAIMER: This ski is NOT for the faint of heart or leisurely skier.

I ski at the III+ level and this ski is the most powerful ski I've ever been on. With that said, you have to use a lot of muscle power to counteract the power contained in these skis.

Some things I loved:

1. The second I clicked into these, I felt like I had two tractor-trailers attached to my feet. And yes, they performed as such.

2. I loved how they busted through the dense, thick snow as if it wasn't even an issue. This was a night and day difference between these and my everyday skis (Rossignol BC Scratch Women's). In no way, shape, or form, will the tips of these skis flex in thick snow.

3. These skis are burly, and heavy and STIFF and I felt awesome just being in them. I felt myself working harder than I ever have before just trying to flex the ski. I was surprised how much power was required just to stop the ski.

4. When you ski these, you feel like you are suction cupped to the snow. I don't think these are capable of being squirrely.

5. Very pretty graphics :eyebrows:

6. These are THE skis for ladies who do not mess around. Dynastar did not make any reservations with this ski for "women's" sake. I feel like this is every bit as stiff as the men's version and just as heavy and the performance level is equal.

Some things I didn't like:

1. Not that these skis are made for groomers, but I would not be comfortable AT ALL railing these skis. And with all Utah resorts, you can't just ski powder from top to bottom. There are groomers invloved somewhere in the picture. Rolling these onto the edge was quite a task to get used to, and I don't think I'd ever like taking these at speed on a groomer.

2. After 4.5 hours on these, my legs were SHOT. Granted, I'm not used to this type of ski (my everyday skis are much more forgiving and lighter weight), but my legs were tired from powering these skis. I came home and crashed for over 2 hours. These obviously wore me out. I'll have to ramp up my leg workouts so I can hack an entire day in these.

Future plans:

1. I'd like to take these for another spin, on a crud-tastic day, to see how much they plow in those conditions. Crud is currently my least favorite thing to ski because I've never had ski that can hack it well.

2. Alta Ski Shop offered me a nice deal if I decide I want these .... I may bite, although, I will demo again.

Has anyone else taken these for a spin?

i have been on them on packed powder for a couple runs out here in CO. First few runs I struggled with the length. They are 166 and you feel the WHOLE ski. I skied the Kiku in a 168 with not nearly the effort of the pro rider. They just really wanted to hold me in the end of the turn and they are so huge I want them to be a bit more forgiving. Then I went and adjusted the demo binding so I was 2cm forward. These skis do not have a forward mounting point, or atleast the demos were not mounted forward (these happen to be out of Jeanie Thoren's demo fleet and I was skiing with her at a demo event we were sponsoring). The forward mounting point was a little better but still a big ship to turn. I think either they should make it in a 156 or make it a twin to let them be a bit more forgiving in the tail. If I was getting a super wide pow only ski this would definitely be a contender but I pick the Kiku over it for sure.
