I wonder if what the body registers--the cumulative stress, pain, trauma, inactivity--morphs into a form of PTSD.
I suspect it would, or at least set up some sort of protective response. If injuries turn something that is usually a source of joy into something that has hurt us, then NOT doing the hurty thing is the "logical" body response.
