Resort COVID-19 safety rules for 2021-22

Aspen Ski Co. has posted the rules and guidelines that will apply for 2021-22 as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. While the rules have similarities to what Vail Resorts announced for Epic resorts, they are not identical. In particular, ASC lodging will require vaccination and for "full-service fine dining locations."

Aspen is celebrating 75 years this season.

Looks like pretty normal operations in Maine. The only adjustment I noticed in this article is that one resort will continue to have children's ski school classes meet up outdoors. Black Mountain will have online ticketing. That's going to be pretty common moving forward.

Ontario is open. As of yesterday you can have a organized sporting event with up to 20,000 with masking. So ski hills are open for business. Now not sure about lodges etc. The Ontario Snow Resorts Association hasn't said anything yet.

As for Quebec, The Quebec Association is still waiting on government policies.

Ski resort websites are becoming more useful. Some aren't fully updated for the 2021-22 season but those that are sending out emails seem to have their rules for COVID-19 updated.

Here's the info for Steamboat. Employees must be vaccinated with the usual exceptions that mean being tested twice a week.

State of WY is outlawing any county, state or federal vaccination requirements. No masks on most indoor lifts where I teach will be required.

If you wear a mask you will be well-protected. This was born out by the healthcare worker experience, pre-vaccine. Carry one in your pocket and/or pull up buff/baclava/neck gaiter. If you are vaccinated you are even better protected. If you can, pull down the window on the gondola/tram. IMO with any one of these actions you will be quite safe, and the measures are additive so do as many as you can. DON'T belly up to a crowded bar at apres. Life IS short, COVID or not. Ski more!!!

And this is a tweet from Snowbasin:

"We’re working diligently to provide a safe & fun ski season. Face coverings will be required in all indoor locations, regardless of vaccination status. They are not required outdoors, but encouraged in areas with limited distancing. This is subject to change based on guidance."

The only change I see at Sun Valley, aside from asking guests to wear masks inside when not eating/drinking, is that you can't store your stuff in the cubbies in the lodge anymore. They are going to have a bag check outdoors now. I can't really figure this one out in terms of Covid prevention. (Also, those free cubbies, right by a big fireplace, were terrific).

Perhaps the idea is that at busier times there could be a bit of crowding situation when people don't want to wait for others to clear out before they go to a cubby. Not having free cubbies may also mean fewer people bother to spend much time in the lodge.

And in Canada, vaccinations will be required to ski at Fernie, Kicking Horse, Kimberley, Mont-Sainte-Anne, Nakiska and Stoneham this winter.

RCR Resorts are requiring vaccination to ride a lift or be indoors.
You have to provide proof of vaccination in order to activate your lift ticket or pass.

RCR resorts are on the Epic pass.

Australians may really appreciate the idea. Sounds like there will be Aussies who will fly to N. America to ski this season. The restrictions for international travel will be lifted fairly soon. Full vaccination will be required by the airlines so anyone who gets to Canada won't have an issue with the requirement.

Most indoor group settings in Canada involve either masks or full vaccines. And since we have to have full vaccines to board a plane or train, makes sense.

It's unclear if Monte-Sainte-Anne or Stoneham in Québec will have the same vaccination requirements as the other RCR ski resorts. But as of yesterday, the MSA and Stoneham websites didn't have a COVID-19 update that was dated Nov. 1 like the four in BC or Alberta.

At the moment, no resort in Quebec has updated their Covid requirements. I expect it soon though, as places are gearing up for the snow season.

Here are the masking rules for Gore. The same for the other ORDA mountains in NY: Belleayre and Whiteface. There are also other guidelines related to COVID-19. Check the website(s) for details.

This just showed up on CTV Montreal

"In order to allow them to operate at full capacity, a vaccination passport will be required for all activities requiring the use of a ski lift including downhill skiing and tubing. People must wear a face cover in closed gondolas, though and scarf and neck warmer will be considered acceptable.

A vaccination passport will not be required for outdoor winter sports and activities such as cross-country skiing, hockey, though participants must be able to keep one metre apart, and masks will be required in indoor facilities, like chalets and cabins. A vaccination passport and mask will be required to access catering areas and bars."

Looks like you need a vaccine passport to ski.
