I'm ready to replace my 4-year old 5-Stars for something lighter but just as rail-like and fast. So far on the list is the Volkl Attiva Fuego and the Nordica Olympia Firefox (thanks, Ski Diva, for the idea!). The Volkl Race Tiger RC's were fantastic, but I'd like something with a little more broad appplication. Recommendations, anyone?

Those would be my choices! They both look like great skis.

How about the Fischer Vision Breeze?

How about the Dynastar Exclusive Fluid? I was on these last year for a few runs.I have to say because I am a heavier skier (150 lbs) they were not enough for me.But for the lighter skier I thought they could hold up well.It is ski geared more for the east coast groomers and may not perform as well in crud or powder.More of a short turning ski!

I would definatley demo several skis! Arc em and Spark em!!

QQ-What kind of skier are you? What kind of terrain do you like to ski? Are you a smaller person? More info please!

Thanks

If you're looking for a hard fast replacement for the 5 stars, then the Firefox is your ski!

I am also giving the Elan Speed Magic a try this winter, but all the reviews and expert advice tells me the Firefox is the ski to make the Ski Diva Grin!!!
Go for it!

Now, to confuse the issue. TCarey Makes those Dynastars Sing! I can imagine that she has some awesome advice there.

Me: Strong Level 8 skier, keep up with the boys on the groomers, and ski most anything on the mountain. I've got powders (Head Sweet Fat Thangs) and mid-fats (Salomon 10-80's), so want something more specific for the hard pack (read: ice!) of New England.:ski: The Vision Breeze sounds like it has a fairly low speed limit, which concerns me. The Exclusive Fluid--that's one I hadn't thought of, but will have to check it out further.

OK, the Exclusive Fluids just made it onto the list--they sound really dynamic.

Another ski with more beef is the Dynastar Speed series-more of a race ski-and way heavier than the Exclusives.

QQ-you are in close proximity to Okemo-I may be bale to get you some skis from Dynastar to demo. When the snow flies shall we talk more?

Oh I won't say that the Breeze's had a speed limitl. I had no trouble keeping up with TJ BRK (JB007) on them. And they really held the hardpack. Next model up is the Vapor. Haven't tried them yet!

SnowHot--
I demo'd those Race Tiger RC's last spring--WOW!! I'd love to get a pair, but their application is rather narrow, so I'll go a little more broad.... another thread coming up soon.
QQ, this from another thread tells me that you know the properties you want in a ski.

I'll be honest about this, I felt that some of the high end womens' skis(even the burnin luf) had a "speed limit" which is fine on an average day, but not acceptable when I'm skiing with da boyz.
While demoing the Nordica Series on the Nordica's demo days at Crystal, I tried everything, EVERYTHING, they had under their tent.
The only ski I considered buying over the Volkl Race Tiger RC was the Nordica Speed Machine 16. Even the Olympia speed, which I really enjoyed, didn't make me grin as much.

You are correct in that the Race Tiger RC has a narrow spot in the quiver, but the one thing it had that the SM16 didn't have was that little "pop" coming out of a corner.

I have never demo'd the New Olympia Fire Fox. I really want to tho, as I hear phenomenal things about it from those in the top of their game. Sierra Jim has personally demoed it and HE thinks its the bees knees. That's something, coming from a guy on a woman's ski.

T--
Yep, I'm close to Okemo (I'll drive right by it tomorrow) & have the weekday pass this year so demo'ing would be great. Thank you.
SH--
Thanks for the input, more to check into. I skied the Attiva Fuego with a bunch of ski shop guys (who were in a hilarious testosterone battle all the way down the mountain) and they held their own and actually felt surprisingly close to the RC's. I think it surprised the guys that they didn't have to wait up.

QQ-Great! Maybe we can make some turns together. I am in Vt full time starting in Dec.

So where are you off too this weekend? I am headed that way as well!

QQ-should be a good time-the weather on Sunday looks better than Sat.

I am pretty sure there will be a couple of bears there as well-philpug and epic. Phil is our lovely SkiDiva Lola's hubby and Eric is this crazy ex-downhiller with full gear!

Have a great time!

OK, here's the short list:

Head Power Thang
Dynastar Exclusive Fluid Ltd
Nordica Olympia Firefox
Salomon Rush

Anybody know anything about the Atomic Sugar Mama or Foxy Mama?

That looks like a great short list!
Its been a year or more since I demo'd the Atomic line, but IIRC, it was okay but not spectacular. I have been most impressed with the Volkl, K2, Nordica, and Elan line for staying away from the "Shrink it and pink it" mentality for womens skis.

I have not been on any Roxy's but would like to give them a try.

Also try the K2 Burnin Luv. Mine do well on pretty much everything from hard pack to funk. So far I haven't found their speed limit. But if you want them light, I'd recommend a la carte bindings, not the integrated ones.

I also love the performance of the Burnin Luv, but I found the speed limit and liked the Nordica much better. I'm hoping that the Elan Speed Magic will be comparable. Only snow can make that happen.

THINK SNOW!!!!!
