It's not the years in your life, it's the life in your years.

I like this one:

George Carlin:
"Here's all you have to know about men and women: women are crazy, men are stupid. And the main reason women are crazy is that men are stupid." :cheer:

Ithaka

As you set out for Ithaka
hope the journey is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
angry Poseidon - don't be afraid of them:
you'll never find things like that on your way
as long as you keep your thoughts raised high,
as long as a rare excitement
stirs your spirit and your body.
Laistrygonians and Cyclops,
wild Poseidon - you won't encounter them
unless you bring them along inside your soul,
unless your soul sets them up in front of you.

Hope the voyage is a long one.
may there be many a summer morning when,
with what pleasure, what joy,
you come into harbours seen for the first time;
may you stop at Phoenician trading stations
to buy fine things,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
sensual perfume of every kind -
as many sensual perfumes as you can;
and may you visit many Egyptian cities
to gather stores of knowledge from their scholars.

Keep Ithaka always in your mind.
Arriving there is what you are destined for.
But do not hurry the journey at all.
Better if it lasts for years,
so you are old by the time you reach the island,
wealthy with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to make you rich.

Ithaka gave you the marvellous journey.
without her you would not have set out.
She has nothing left to give you now.

And if you find her poor, Ithaka won't have fooled you.
Wise as you will have become, so full of experience,
you will have understood by then what these Ithakas mean.

-- Constantine Cavafy

Not so long ago, I was in tears, feeling like I was at a dead end. A friend of mine said:

You're not at a dead end, darlin', you're at a crossroads.
This is where you get to choose a new path. It may look like a dead end but with one step, you'll see the options.

A friend of mine said this to me the other day, and I loved it so much I had to post it here:

Sometimes you have to stir the pot to make supper taste better.

So true.

From a Christmas Catalogue I recieved this week:

"Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill!"

Sooner or later in life everyone discovers that perfect happiness is unrealizable, but there are few who pause to consider the antithesis: that perfect unhappiness is equally unattainable. The obstacles preventing the realization of both these extreme states are of the same nature: they derive from our human condition which is opposed to everything infinite.

This thread has been inactive for a loooong time. Let's get it going again!

Someone posted this in another thread, so I'll post it here:

I LOVE this one....

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." — Mark Twain

Those of you who have driven in foreign countries will appreciate this one…

Europeans, like some Americans drive on the right side of the road, except in England where they drive on both sides of the road; Italy, where they drive on the sidewalk, and France where they follow you right into the hotel lobby." --Dave Barry
