While looking back on some old posts, I found a thread from September 3, 2006, that posed the following question:

"What are you skiing on?"

Which got me wondering -- how has our gear changed over the past year?

Here's what I had then:
Skis: Head Monster IM 70's with Tyrolia LD10 bindings (3 years old)
Boots: Lange Banshees (5 years old)

Note that it's just one pair of skis.

And here's what I have now, entering the '07 season:
Skis: Fischer Vision 73's (152) , Volkl Queen Attivas (156) with
Salomon Z10 bindings. And yes, I still have my Heads -- for rock skis.
Boots: Nordica Speed Machine 10's.

My, the times have changed -- especially since last year I had no intention of getting anything new! Boy, this forum is a bad influence!

How about you?

At start of 06, I was on my K2 missdemeanors, with Rossi bandit b2 boots, both of which were only a season old. I was sporting a k2 lid, a north face jacket and some sos pants. My trusty goggles were my oldest piece of kit - dating some 9 years.

Now I have the same boots, but with new foam liners, some volkl s5 titaniums and auras, 2 new pairs of pants - special blend and peak performance (i sliced the old ones in a little tumble, but have kept them, gaffer taped togther), a peak performance jacket, sweet helmet (cracked the other in another little tumble) and some tasty new A frames. Oh and a new transceiver. I wasn't going to buy any new kit last year either.

I am absolutely not buying any kit this year. Definitely not. Except maybe a new snowboard. And maybe some touring boots. And I keep promising myself an ABS backpack. But other than that lot, I'm not buying anything.

I started in 1968. Rubber tie boots, cubco bindings and Northland wood skis, long, with screwed in edges. No wonder I could barely move. In the 80's I had 190's and thought that was cool. Just sold my really wonderful Atomic Women's c-9's 156 cm. and am looking for a Volkyl All mountain ski....tried it last year....OR what does Atomic have this year? Last year I tried the "Diva" (really dark green ski) and did not like it so much. ...felt dead underfoot. The Atomic had much more life and spring. I teach skiing on atomic 120's...alot of fun! :-)

Suggestion for Volkl All-Mountain--Attiva Tierra is excellent, tried it last spring. Has great reviews, too.

My Quiver has enlarged to include powder skis--the Head Sweet Fat Thangs--which was my goal at the start of last season. My goal this year is to ditch the (unisex) Volkl 5-Stars for something lighter in a purely carving ski, maybe the Volkl Attiva Fuego or the Head Wild Thang--any other suggestions?

Elan Black Magic Fusion! I haven't tried them, but would love to get some demo time on the.

True-lite woodcore, Reflex sidecut................Sounds like a ski you can throw around and have some fun on.

I wonder if anyone has tried the Volkl Tierra?

My quiver holds a single arrow and the only change is a fresh gob of P-tex thanks to a rock.

Yeah, Iski, mines the same, but I can dream. OK Snowhot, I had the chance to try those Black Magic Fusion at NSIA last Feb. 160cm of pure carving enjoyment. Get a pair and try them for our Eastern conditions. You're going to love them. They are true parabolic carvers.

I just returned from my local ski shop and the owner (woman) has demoed the '08 Wild Thang and can't say enough good things about it. She really sold me on it. Not quite certain if I want to plunk down that much $ right now.

She's an ex ski racer and so has pretty good technique. She took it off-piste and said it was outstanding. She said it was really good on the groomers as well.
