question about season dates in utah

Perhaps my goal is to ski the worst possible Utah conditions. We skied four days over Thanksgiving and need to go back in April.

The truth is, my parents live in Bountiful, and the kids and I leave the domestic partner behind and go out twice a year to visit them -- fall and spring. Kids have off school April 11th to 18th. So, Alta closes on the 13th (and we would be left w/o skiing that entire mid-week), but it looks like Snowbird might be open, but it never opened while we were there the week after Thanksgiving.

Many other resorts simply specify "mid November to mid April."

What can you imagine would be open that week? We could probably go up to Beaver one day if it's still open up there (have family there -- well, not at the resort). Or we can go to Ogden resorts, since we will be based in Bountiful

The resorts generally shut down mid-April, with the exception of Snowbird. You may want to track what Snowbird, Snowbasin, and Powder Mountain are posting for end dates. Likely, Snowbird is your best bet for a few runs.

By April, the crowds drop off and the seasonal help starts leaving. I've remembered years where we got huge snows, but the resorts closed anyway. It is fun to hike up the runs in a blizzard in April and hit fresh tracks.

Snowbird is really the only safe bet after mid-april. They're generally open until at least the end of May, sometimes until July. Snow conditions though can be excellent in April. Alta just has a mandatory closing date with their lease.

thanks

i did check the sites, but most just said, "mid-april." this all does help though. it's good to know we will be able to count on snowbird.

Snowbird is good to go. The PSIA National Academy is held annually at Snowbird and is always post-mid-April (3rd week, I believe). TAKE AND USE MAJOR SUNSCREEN. Sun's intense there that time of year.
