Question about helmet size and goggles

Ok, this is more of a "fashion" question: I was looking at pics from last season and I felt my head looked huge in my helmet. I'm a petite person (5'2") but I have a large head and my helmet is the Giro Fuse in size L. My goggles are Smith Anthems and I'm wondering if they're too small for my large head/helmet. So I guess I'm wondering if I should get a new helmet (different style?)or new goggles (I have 3 pairs of the Anthems!). I asked dh this question and he said he thinks everyone looks funny in a helmet

Camera angle, colour of helmet and whether matt or shiny could account for how you feel the pics look.
I am your height (minus half an inch) and wear the Fuse in a small, other family members have this helmet in other sizes and they dont look visibly different from each other ie for those of the same colour you have to read the inside to tell them apart. I also wear the Anthems - a popular combination.
If your helmet does not fit well, or if your goggles are too narrow and impinge visibility then it would make sense to try others.
Lots of us dont like the way we look in pics, and I am so comfy in my helmet I dont even think about how it looks. How I look in my ski pants, now that's an entirely different matter!!

ak - similar problem here, except my Fuse is a M (I wear a M/L in Leedom, to which Scotts are dedicated for sizing). The Anthems just don't have enough "width" for my face. If you like the "feel" of the helmet (i.e., you aren't even aware it's on), the better bet is to try other goggles. Tried Smith Regulators? I found they had better width for my wider face (though my cranium - excuse techno-speak - isn't quite as large as yours!) -- ditto some Spys.

Yeah - oh heck, we both may have to try to sell off some Anthems here :( but there will be plenty of "takers!" (I hope!)

I'm with MSL, if the helmet fits, go for goggles. Take the helmet with you when you go to shop for them. In my avitar are the smith regulators. They are too large for me and I went to Oakley A frames. Also that helmet - Salomon Siam is too round for my head shape. Went to the Icon the next year. The Oakley fit it too. Try that first. If you don't like or can't find goggles then you have the reason for a new helmet.

Agreed - everyone's head looks large in a helmet. I have noticed that the colour of the helmet does mitigate it somewhat. I have a dull gunmetal grey Giro which makes me look like a bobblehead, but I noticed a few ski Divas wearing lighter coloured shinier helmets that looked far better. So I got me a second helmet in a silver color and I thnk it does improve the overall impression.

Whilst I love the Smith Anthem Goggles, their fit to my face and their frequent availability at SAC & Tramdock at bargain prices, I find their straps too short for wear with a helmet. When I take off my goggles they have pressed into my face leaving not only marks, but little pouches of pressed up skin on top of my cheeks - it's worse than my dive mask!. I have taken one side out of the plastic on the adjusters so they can move closer to the closing buckle at the back and it's created a little more slack, but not enough. Currently I am storing my goggles over my helmet to try to stretch them out. Anyone else experienced this, or have any ideas to cure it?

And another thing - the fastener on the strap is now quite irritating with a helmet, it sits directly under the helmet clip, and on one pair cam unclipped while I was carrying my helmet to the slopes and dropped off. I've never really used the clips and wonder if they still have a purpose. Does anyone use these?

My helmet is black and shiny and makes me look like a bowling ball! And I don't think it helps that I wear a black beanie under it, so what the helmet might not cover the beanie does, thus completing the bowling ball illusion.

I was hoping one in a matte finish with vents and ridges would help. But now I'm going to look at the light colored shiny ones that LilaBear mentions.

The one I had before was like that too! So I bought a new one last year and now I look like an alien/astronaut. I'm off to the ski shop to try on goggles...

Thanks for all the replies!

I'm too cheap

The problem I have is that I am too cheap to buy a good pair of goggles that fit flush with the opening of my helmet. So, I have "the gap". :bag:

Disclaimer: And, while I also ski with my mouth gaped open  when I'm consentrating, I do NOT stand in the middle of the slope admiring the view, causing others to have to ski around me. :nono:

Summary: I have a gap and my mouth gapes, but I'm really not a gaper.
