Question About Bindings and Risers

WildKitten

I took my new skis (Dynastar Exclusive Legends) into the local ski shop to have the bindings (Look Nova Exclusive) mounted. The sales guy in the store, who we know quite well, said he was surprised the bindings did not come with risers.

He checked with the Dynastar rep who said that they should be mounted flat, so, they are mounted flat. The Dynastar rep said that if I notice a problem initiating turns risers could be added later.

These are brand new skis for me and I'm really looking forward to skiing them, and having a GOOD experience with them.

I'd appreciate hearing how other Diva's with similar bindings have them mounted. Pro risers? Con risers?

Thanks

I believe the Legends are powder skis right? If so, that makes perfect sense ans you won't be trying to carve turns like you would an front side ski. Risers help to give you more leverage in getting the ski over onto edge.

Thanks for your reply Robyn.

The Dynastar Exclusive Legend is considered an all mountain ski. It has a waist of 74. Definitely not a powder ski.

I have this same set-up. The flat-mount gave me pause. Skiing is believing. They really ski well. I didn't get mine until late March, so they were primarily used in winter-to-spring very good snow conditions. I loved them and pretty much used them exclusively all through April. I'm not sure (or don't altogether recall) what the philosophy was behind going flat-mount for this particular model (ditto the EL Powder), when Dynastar was such a hard-charging proponent of risers.

Hope you are as pleasantly surprised as I was. In viewing some videos taken of me on these and some other skis, I even have better form on the Legends! :noidea:

Thanks MaineSkiLady, I'm feeling much better about it now. I'm really hoping that this will be somewhat of a "breakthrough" season for me and I'm really excited about these new skis, I just wanna make sure they're right! :ski2:

With a waist width of 74, you shouldn't have much of an issue with boot-out unless your feet are HUGE. That's really the only reason to use a standard lifter plate. Any lifter will also dampen and stiffen your ski, so give it a try flat first.

Check the binding article in the Gearipedia section for more general binding/plate info.

I agree with volklgirl. Only a very small % of skiers will ever "boot-out" and if it happens it's on a narrow waisted ski (ie: race skis). At 74 you won't have a problem. Flat mount is the way to go!
Have fun!!
