POWDR multi-season passes for 2019-20: Killington, Bachelor

POWDR is a major company in the ski industry is a bit unusual because it isn’t involved in multi-resort passes. The three large POWDR ski resorts are in different regions and are very different for assorted reasons: Mt. Bachelor in OR, Killington in VT, Copper in CO. I discovered recently that POWDR is offering “multi-season” passes. What POWDR resorts have in common is a strong emphasis on activities besides downhill skiiing/boarding, both in winter and during the “green season” from late May through the fall.

Mt. Bachelor and Killington are offering a year-round season pass for 2019-20 that covers both winter and summer activities. Bachelor calls it Outplay 365. The Killington multi-season pass is called Beast 365. Both need to be purchased before a June deadline.

Copper in CO doesn’t have a 12-month pass, but does offer a golf season pass for $599 (with cart). Copper is surrounded by destination resorts that are included in multi-resort passes. What Copper offers to premium season pass holders is 3 free days at Monarch, Purgatory, Taos, and Powder Mountain. Also can get a free kid’s pass for each adult pass.

A little history about POWDR:

I tend to forget that POWDR has been around the ski industry since the 1990s. It’s a privately held company with co-founder John Cummings as Chairman of the Board, but he stepped down as CEO in 2018 soon after his father died to look after other business interests. It took a while for POWDR to settle on which destination resorts to hold for the long term. Note that Snowbird is owned by the Cummings family but is not part of POWDR. POWDR got into the ski industry with Park City in 1994 (PCMR without Canyons, now owned by Vail Resorts). Then bought Mt. Bachelor in 2001, Killington/Pico in 2007, and Copper in 2009 (from Intrawest). POWDR also owns Eldora, Boreal, Soda Springs, and Lee Canyon, which are ski areas for locals.

2017 marked a turning point for POWDR. The company was re-branded and renamed from POWDR Corp. to POWDR Adventure Lifestyle Company. Since becoming the majority shareholder of Camp Woodward in 2011 (five locations), the emphasis has been on expanding Woodward camps for both winter and summer activities. Depending on the location, Woodward activities can include freestyle skiing/boarding (terrain park tricks), gymnastics, dance and cheerleading, trampoline and tumbling, skateboarding (indoor, outdoor), BMX, mountain biking, inline skating, parkour, digital media, photography, videography, graphic arts or music. The original location is still operating summer camps in Woodward, PA. POWDR was a partner for the first winter Woodward camp at Copper in 2008.
