Pow ski advice

I am in the market for a fat ski and have been looking at the rossi scratch girl BC and the salomon gun and scarlet - has anyone tried these out? Any help is much appreciated, Thanks!

oh I should mention I'm 5'7 135lbs, aggressive skiier looking for a second ski, I have atomic triplets for my everyday ski that I absolutely love.

I've never tried the Scratch girl BC. I have however, flexed it in a shop and it is the softest ski I've ever flexed. Also, I've demoed other Rossi women's skis and really truly hated them. They make women's skis SO soft and mushy I think you'd either have to be light as a feather or a total beginner to have any use for them.

Now granted, you're lighter than me. I'm 5'9" and about 165lbs.

If you like really soft skis, then maybe they're worth a try. If not - I wouldn't bother with those. I haven't skied any Salomons lately, so I don't know on those.

Personally, I'd recommend the Volkl Aura.

yeah i want a stiffer ski definitely - my atomics are light but very stiff and i love 'em. sounds like the aura is light and stiff as well - they look great. and the graphics are sick. how are they in bumps?

How about unisex ski?

At your size, you're just a little on the small side for a guy!

For what it's worth, a lot of people say powder skis should ski soft, softer than the ski you use on groomers. So, almost all powder ski will be softer than their brother on the groomer. But if you want stiffer skis, maybe the "soften up" men's pow ski would do just fine?

Rossi scratch

I jumped on a pair of rossi scratches a few weeks ago. I thought they were a very fun ski. The one I skied had bamboo on them, I don't know the exact model they were white. I thought the flex was perfect, stiffer than the womens k2 models and less stiff that my volkls. A pretty fun versatile ski overall. They skied exceptionally well in the bumps.

I'm 5'7" and 145 pounds.

My favorite ski this year has been the 163 Volk Aura. It's 130-94-113. This ski has been great all over the mountain on everything from groomers to bumps to powder. It's a workhorse, do anything ski.

We were fortunate to have many deep snow and powder days this year in the PNW. So, I had the pleasure of skiing some true powder skis this year.

The 167 Prior Doughboy is 143-103-118. I really enjoyed this ski. It skis more like a conventional ski than the reverse camber powder skis, and it provides more float than the Aura. It's also a bit softer than the Aura. It's a great ride in powder and deep snow.

The 179 K2 Pontoon is 160-130-120. I had a lot of fun on this ski. Because it's a reverse camber, rockered ski, it did take me a little while to get used to it, especially on groomers on the way back to the lift. The ski's wide tips made me feel like I needed a wider stance than I would normally use. Nonetheless, in fresh powder, this ski is so much fun it left me laughing out loud.

I've been considering a couple of powder skis for next year (I'm a bit of a ski shopaholic :D ):

The 175 Praxis is 117-121-111. This is a reverse camber, reverse side cut, true powder ski that has gotten good reviews. People say the Praxis skis cut-up, manky snow well, too. The preseason price is something like $399, which is a great price.

The 172 Line Elizabeth 139-110-137. I'm intrigued by this ski because it's pretty symmetrical, which could be handy since I've started playing around with skiing backwards. One of my kids has the Line Sir Francis Bacon (a similar, but bigger ski than the Elizabeth) and loves it.

My $.02.

I bought a pair of those 185 Praxis on the preseason deal myself! Can't wait to get them!

Thanks for all the great advice - i've never ridden volkls but the aura's sound perfect. are they a pretty forgiving ski? i rode line celebritys this past weekend which were super fun and maneuverable but not forgiving at all. if I got even a little in the backseat i was completely thrown off.

This is definitely the direction I'd go if I were in the market.
Oh, Wait a minute! Maybe I could use another ski!

Now where's that volkl catalogue?
