I'm not too good at posting pictures so I do it in a different thread in case I mess it up...

1) Village of Wengen on arrival day (note how green it was)
2) Village of Wengen Day 2! (you get my drift)

(More to come later)

WOW! Quick technical question - how did you get the snow to not be overexposed in your photos? I kept playing with my settings and still ended up with blown out shots of the slopes whenever I shot on a sunny day.

Thanks.

Mmm... usually I get grey snow instead of overly white snow -- underexposure instead of overexposure.

I don't fuss with my on camera settings usually. I point the camera at the sky to get an exposuer reading and re-compose to shoot.

This of course only works if I'm shooting scenary. If there're people in the shot, you need to focus on the people. The trick is NOT to shoot them backlited. You MUST have them standing facing the sun. It's practically impossible to get both the people AND the snow exposed properly on the same shot if the people are standing in the shade.

Another trick I use is get some trees or rocks that are not covered by snow included in the frame. The shot looks better with a bit of contrast anyway.

Ah, that must be what I'm doing wrong. I metered off the snow instead of the sky. My camera's got a snow setting, but I tend to like to try my own settings as well. Thank you very much for the pointers. Except now I have to wait a whole year to try again. :(

Only very few resort in the US I know of has the scenary that could remotely come close, Taos, Squaw Valley and maybe Jackson Hole (haven't been, guessing from photos). Most of them quite hard to get to, hours from any major airport.

For us east coasters, it's almost as easy to go over to Europe as to go west.

One or two extra hours of flight time and maybe a little bit extra for the ticket (I paid $450 round trip). The rest is easier.

Train from the airport to the village, hotel overlooking the cable car. The Swiss railroad takes your ski/boot from the airline and you pick them up at the dstination stations the same evening or no later than next morning... (same going back, too)

I'll probably go back next year. Still can't believe those un-tracked powders days after the storm!

And did I mention the food? (forgot to shoot a pix of the apple-fritter, just thinking about them makes my mouth water...)

.

Yep! Just not for Christmas, that is.

I love it when 90% of the population is hibernating and complaining about the cold. Then, airlines drop their prices, there's still tons of seats even on the same the day (you can't get the same price, but the seats are there).

I thought I go over there for a mountain bike trip? Gosh, the flight cost over $!000!!!

I'll stick with skiing then! (Wish I have more vacation time though. Too many resorts, too little time)

Your pictures are UNBELIEVABLE!!!! Just gorgeous. I just have to comment, thought on the scenary we have here in Colorado! NOTHING compares to the Alps! Nothing. But....the views at Telluride are incredible, and of course, my favorite is Vail! Some of your pictures actually look like some of the views we have in Vail! I'll share a couple here! (Remember....I am bias....but I don't think you can argue with some of these pictures! )

Hopefully that worked!

I just like to share the beauty we do have here in the Good Ole' USA!!! Nothing like it in my book! We're lucky to live here! (and I really want to go to Switzerland, too! It's absolutely beautiful where you went!!!) Thank you so much for showing us your beautful pictures!
