I like to fill a pitcher or two with ice and have them next to the tub, then I stand in the tub and turn the cold water on. I think the feet are the worst part, so starting out with them like that makes it a little less painful. Once the water's high enough (and my feet are at least partly numb), I sit down and add the ice. Brr...I've got about three weeks left in my half-marathon training before I reach the point where I need to start doing ice baths again after my long runs. NOT looking forward to that point!Ow, ow, ow!
SO glad it wasn't worse. You can definitely lie on the ice packs. While an ice bath would be more effective, anything helps. You could actually keep the ice packs on longer than 15 minutes if you don't feel like you're getting cold enough, up to 30 minutes.
altagirl~I have a hard time believing it's easier starting in lukewarm water! That seems like it would be even MORE painful!I like to fill a pitcher or two with ice and have them next to the tub, then I stand in the tub and turn the cold water on. Oh dear, have you had it xrayed? How are the ribs?
Time is always the best healer, but arnica gel works nicely on bruises.
...I usually think of myself as tough and don't mind the cold, but I cannot begin to imagine getting into a tub full of ice water. I must never have been hurt badly enough to need something like that and all I can say is I hope I won't ever need it. I have a whole new appreciation for all of you ... and I sure wouldn't want to mess with any of you.
