Sea smoke this morning - water temp is around 41 deg air temp -10 deg. Water is 50 deg warmer than the air and is "steaming". Didn't think we'd have this today as the winds are around 30 mph gusting > 40. Sorry for the crappy photos - one is thru my living room window and the other 2 I opened the living room slider and stuck my phone out the door - wind chill is -34 deg. Those are not clouds - it is all sea smoke.

I used to live right on Lake Michigan when I first moved to WI and that effect is so gorgeous over water. Even though it would only happen when it was super cold and super dry, I still loved to see it… and having the water to your east makes for some absolutely spectacular sunrises!!!

Had a great time skiing at Snow Summit in Big Bear Lake, CA while visiting with my friend in LA and her family’s mountain home in Big Bear. 1200 feet of vertical and varied terrain. Lots for intermediates and some interesting steeper terrain. The snow conditions were good and it felt like spring skiing both days out. The off-piste visible from the lift was not great but it’s been a little bit since they got snow.

The base area is quite crowded on weekends - unsurprisingly for being close to LA and Orange County - but there were opportunities to get away from the crowds and on shorter lift lines. Coming from Vermont, I wouldn’t travel to Big Bear just to ski out here, but it was a nice little addition to a very enjoyable trip to see my friends.

We had sunshine this weekend at WB— my first day of the season skiing with actual visibility lol! It was a treat.

Is it me, or are you riding that lift downhill?
Haha! Yes! I was at a place on the mountain where you typically ride down to get back to the main lodge…..unless you can ski double black diamond and diamond runs confidently.

There is one blue run that takes you down in a long round about way, but my lesson was over - so my instructor and I just took the lift down.
