@GladeDuchess - Thank you for the info - I will look for her replacement skis - new equipment is not just for the young - also the young at heart.

I think the original skies are scattered somewhere in the decoration boxes. These figures are 100% cast lead not sure if that identifies them as Barclay figures. I believe they had to stop making them due to all the lead rules that came about in the 70s.

I'm not 100% certain of Barclays, but they were a big name in the world of toys and little figures like these in the early 20th century, and did use an identical foot binding. Many other companies made things like this, and actual toys too out of lead/tin too.

New rules surely played a role in their demise, as did the cheapness of plastics.

Somehow though, our grandparents survived the savage world of kitchen wood stoves, lead toys, and lawn jarts, lol.

50 miles of the Stevens Pass highway are closed on either side of Stevens Pass due to many debris flows and landslides. I don't think they know the extent of the damage.



Mission Ridge has loads of trees down including across one of their lifts. Mt Baker highway is closed due to multiple landslides, with no ETA for reopening. I think White Pass is the only area still accessible, but only from the west.

Looks similar to damaged roads and mud slides from Helene that we had here in Appalachia. Very destructive with a myriad of unpredictable repercussions. That won’t be fixed very soon. So sorry!

I saw a weather alert for Spokane of winds forecast to be near 100mph in the Spokane area today and tonight. I'm glad my kiddo is here in Utah already for winter break. I cannot wrap my head around what is happening up there in my home state!

Wow. I was just going thru old photos on my phone and stumbled upon the big floods we had in the northeast two years ago....brutal reminder that Mother Nature is always in charge.

Hope the governor is wrong, and they're able to construct some temporary fixes quickly.

Not sure how far you are from the bulk of the flooding...but hope you are staying dry and safe.

I love seeing others' ski photos. Post them here! I'll start. Yesterday at Crystal, my first ski day. Great coverage, very nice snow. Busier than I expected--almost like a regular season weekend rather than a mid-November day. Started out beautiful, clouds moved in throughout the day and they got 10" last night.

Super envious and delighted for you. Utah is way behind this year, but glad others are getting it. Enjoy for us.

I hope you know how much we are thinking off all you folks in the PNW and are heartbroken and concerned for all affected. The news coverage hasn't been very clear, TBH. Once upon a time, I worked at FEMA -- back when FEMA was still being deployed to help. I am sickened by it all.

Thanks all. We in hilly Seattle and the metro area in general are fine. It's the river valleys that lead from the Cascades to Puget Sound that were flooded (there's no major river in Seattle). In nearly every case you drive up these river valleys into the mountains to ski, so the flooding took much of that highway access out.

This amount of precipitation isn't that unusual, but typically it would be snow. Temps were too warm. So the 17 inches of rain Stevens Pass got in 5 years would historically been snow. It's not very hard to imagine that things could just be like this going forward.

@contesstant I know Whistler got 30 cm of snow this week while the lower mainland got rain and flooding. I've heard the interior resorts are doing well.

My family are in Seattle and high areas of Kitsap County, so thankfully are fine. I do have a nephew in Cashmere where there has been flooding, but other than being a lineman so therefore rather busy, he and his household are fine.

I imagine that the feet of heavy snow forecast on top of the saturated soil could be a problem. It sounds like the winds in the Spokane area got a little crazy, too.

We visited the Denver Science museum yesterday and they had a really neat exhibit of giant Lego 'sculptures'. This monarch caterpillar and butterfly were impressive. It amazes me how a collection of little rectangular bricks can create such a complex looking structure.

Views aside, I always adore the ever-changing ice sculptures nature forms on the trees. Like a mercurial art exhibit that is different each day you go out.

Hopefully tomorrow's storm stays fluffy white and not rain. Vacation week crowds are taking a beating on the foot we got at Christmas.
