Wow, you can ferry that whole way? How long did that take? Sounds like a very cool experience.

It depends on where you go. It IS a cool experience. There were many experienced travelers who wanted to see the Inside Passage without taking a cruise, so you meet and hang out with a lot of nice people. Others are SE residents bringing goods, cars, pets, etc back from WA. SE is closer to WA than to the rest of AK. Some people take it up to Skagway then drive the AlCan back. I met at least 6 motorcyclists doing this.

There have been huge budget cuts under the current governor and some in SE AK wonder if the system will survive, so anyone interested should go sooner than later.

Are you going to do something with this? Seems like an awesome addition to a seaside landscape
Wow, I hate to use a cliche, but it looks like paradise.
Nothing at all related to skiing, but my happy place (in summer) - Butter Island, Maine in East Penobscot Bay. Accessible only by boat, and forever wild thanks to a conservation easement from the Cabot family.

That looks wonderful, @BReeves215 ! We love going to Bailey Island in the off-peak season, but it isn't exactly "remote." Some day I'd love to retire to Maine. Hope springs eternal.

I'm lucky enough to spend my summers in a lovely corner of England - it's been a damp, grey few months on the whole but lately it's been doing this a few times a week and all is forgiven.

We have been under a layer of smoke in the mornings that has cast a dark shadow on a dry and warm fall in the Tetons. If I did not know better I would guess fog or clouds. PC webcam from JHMR website1000024693.jpg

@Jenny is that for real, or just for Halloween? I believe its [cough] majesty has been captured.

Reminds me of when the neighbors painted their house turquoise, and through the windows it reflected blue onto the white interior walls of our house. Awful.

Hahaha, I mean, it's not my favorite house color in the world, but I also appreciate it when every house doesn't look the same. I think I'd rather have some houses I don't like if every house had a little more personality.

I love a purple house, though that shade of purple is quite saturated. One down on the color card might have been better. Still better than grey or beige though.

One of my very favorite houses in my 'hood is called Lilac Cottage. If I were single I'd want to live here.

what was for dinner and where are you located?
Home made chili, cornbread, guacamole and the promise of candy from our concession stand in our movie room for dessert while watching “Cars” on the big screen. (Heck, I’d cartwheel, too, is that was my evening!) We live in central Vermont.

Lookee what the neighbors did! This doesn’t quite capture the majestic purple-ness of it!

There are two purple houses within a block of me. One is eggplant with olive green trim, the other is lilac with aqua trim. If you recognize the color combinations let me know - we're neighbors.

@VickiK - it’s for real, as far as I know. Would be an expensive Halloween prank.

@Christy - the lilac cottage is cute. It also looks like it about 25% of the size of this one, so less overwhelming.

@RachelV - I don’t like it when everything is the same color, either. And where I wouldn’t paint my house this color, it's not my house. Still makes me giggle to drive by it.

@brooksnow - this is the only purple house I know. Not neighbors.
