Pain in outside of my feet while skiing

Today I experienced something I haven't felt before - I had pain, kind of like cramps on the outside middle of both feet. The part of the foot in question is right next to my arches, but on the outside? I was skiing in somewhat challenging conditions and being tentative which the new skis dislike. The temperatures were not too cold, I didn't have my boots fastened down too tight, but I know that I need new boots - those will come in September when there is a selection in stock in my size to be fitted properly. Any ideas what could cause me this pain? What did I do, etc to cause this? Later when skiing more aggressively (but on slightly less challenging terrain) this pain went away. Any suggestions appreciated as I'd like to not repeat this experience. Very not fun to ski like this.

Happens to me ALL the time. It goes away the minute my foot can freely flex again so I chaulk it up to ill fitting boots.

Hmmmm....sounds to me like turn transition to outside edge/uphill ski, and your boot isn't responding quickly enough to your foot command. So your feet are "hollering" at your boots - and straining as a result. I agree that new boots, higher-end and good fit, will likely ease this issue.

That always starts happening to me when my boots pack out and are too big. My feet kind of slide to the sides, and yes, it hurts.

For me, this is a sure sign that I need new boots.

Hmmm were you standing around more than usual on the slopes? Not talking about flat ground but on a slope sideways w/ edges engaged. That does it for me whether I'm waiting for someone or taking a pic. or adjusting equipment etc etc...after a bit the feets are ok though...so I'm not sure. If you were more tense than usual you could have been clenching down with your toes...that definitely does it (for me at least).

Well yesterday was warmer than my past trips and since the boot guy tightened up my boots I've been trying not to crank them down as much. Tightening them up was a stop-gap until next September when I can get new boots that fit properly. These have served me well to learn, but alas I think they've reached the end of the road, especially on a warmer weather day (ie the shell isn't as stiff/tight). I think I was also clenching my feet trying to get the reaction I wanted since I was tentative/nervous and the boots aren't perfect so weren't reacting as quickly as I wanted. Bah! So I guess this just adds up to more of what I knew - I need new boots.:(

Sadly yesterday was day 5 of my season, and I've got at least 5 or 6 more days planned. Guess I'm just gonna have to remember to crank down when it warms up.

You might find that a small varus wedge placed under the inside heel of both footbeds(even if you only have the stock footbed) will take the pressure off that part of your foot.

see, now this spot hurts on my feet on their more arthritic days -- and I know as I'm putting them on that they're going to complain for a while. Once my feet have been in my boots a while, they shut up and enjoy the day. It's really not boot fit in MY experience -- it's my feet. Maybe I got grandma's feet? I understand they're as memorable as her hands, so I sure hope not!

I KNOW I need new boots but I have calves that don't fit in ANYTHING. So it'll be Aug. Sept. and a Daleboot USA pro boot for me. Like I said above this happens to me ALL the time with my current boot.....I found a workaround that gives me more flex to relax the pain is leaving my boots in the walk position. Yes the boot flexes ALOT, and I have to adjust my skiing a bit but its either that or 5-6 runs and I'm done because I can't stand the pain.
