Overlap! Is it really a Bad Thing?

I'm fine with overlap, but I do have a question: unless conditions are obvious when you leave for a day of skiing, how do you decide which skis and how many pairs to load into the car?

Yeah, this is a problem we're going to have this year. I have a feeling I'll end up only bringing my powder/park skis out west. Hopefully next season we'll at least do a seasonal rental, so then we can just leave all our skis up in VT all season. That would be ideal, I think.

I've found myself actually going the other way this year - I've thinned the herd. With the exception of the race skis (2pr GS, 2pr SL, 1pr DH), I found that the Karma and the 6* cover every condition on a regular basis. Admittedly, the 6* doesn't have the edge grip on ice that the race skis have, but they're good enough to not be scary. It drives hubby nuts that on non-race days, I can just throw 2 pairs in the car and be good for the entire day (plus the blades and snowboard of course )....he ends up taking 3-4 pairs then has to stand in the parking lot and contemplate before going out.
