Overlap! Is it really a Bad Thing?

As noted in a few threads:
Does the Diva Have A Quiver?
The Diva's Ultimate Three Ski Quiver
I finally got a quiver......
I got new skis!!!
What Qualities do you look for in a ski?
Narrowing down ski choices from 4 to 2 or 3

..........We have discussed the ideal quiver with little or no overlap.
I started out with a 4 ski quiver 2 years ago with most all of my skis under 70mm. The more I read, the more I demo'd, the more I discussed..........the more I was able to narrow down(bad term in this thread) my quiver so that I didn't have much, if any, overlap.

What if a Diva has a carver, or consumer race ski, like the Volkl Race Tiger RC(67mm), and she decides that she really wants to buy another ski with similar properties(70mm)(although not exactly the same properties)?

Lets say this same diva has a Karma(86), and a Snoop Daddy(88mm). These skis are technically overlap, but still have some of their own personality.

Is overlap really a bad thing? C'mon Divas, I need your help!!!

:help:

No - overlap isn't a bad thing. It's not as if you are purchasing 2 of the same ski. If the skis have different properties and you want them for a specific purpose then I say - go for it.

What you really want is for us to give you the go ahead to buy many pairs of skis. :D

So, now if you buy more skis then I think I will just have to consider buying another pair I have my eye on as well!

Pfft, if we had more room I'd have 10 pairs of skis by now. More skis! More!!! ;)

Divas are soooooooooooooo smart!

Current quiver(pics later):

Volkl Karma 169cm(86w)
The Ski 162cm (72 w?)
Volkl Racetiger RC 168cm (67w)
2008 Elan Wave Spice 160cm (80w)
Atomic Snoop Daddy's 174cm (88w)

Ski turned over to my husband from my quiver:
Nordica Nitrous 170cm (78w)

The Atomic Snoop Daddy is unmounted, and I'd consider selling it. If I don't sell it before winter hits, I'm going to mount them up and use 'em.

The Wave Spice is likely to be my primary ski for the season
Karma is a rock ski!!
I really love my Race Tigers, but after reading reviews and having a local rep for Nordica tell me about HIS experience on the new Nordica Olympia FireFox, I got intrigued. Then Sierra Jim posted about it on Epic, and HE said he loved this women specific ski!!!
So that got me to thinking that my Race Tigers wouldn't mind some company in the carver section of my quiver.
THEN.........I got some information on the Elan Speed Magic, and now I'm thinking about that.

Its hot outside, and I should be thinking about which hybrid to add to my golf bag...........but SKIS!!!!! I can't stop them from talking to me!!!!!

Now about that midfat.............
The Elan Free Spice would be nice company for the Karma, don'cha think?

By its title, I thought this thread was gonna be about tip overlap caused by a narrow stance. Ha!

I'm going to quote myself from another thread:

I don't want to name drop, but I recently had a conversation with Deb Armstrong (Gold Medal Winner Women's Giant Slalom, 1984 Olympics), and she says the Nordica Olympia Firefox is an "awesome ski." Don't know anything about it, but that was enough to spark my interest!

I dunno - I was thinking about buying a pair of 06-07 Burnin' Luvs for no reason other than they were $300 at REI and in my length. Even if they overlapped with my Nordica Olympic Victory's.:becky:

I've been waiting for someone to use that banana since it was posted on epic!

And to throw your own sage advice back at you, do it SnowHot! Nothing wrong with a little overlap, demo them, fall in love with em, and let your quiver grow :D

I'm of the opposite opinion. A bargain on something you don't get to use is no bargain at all.

It's one thing to get another ski that has a different characteristic, for the fun of it. It's something else to get something because it's on sale.

Width isn't the only thing. Some skis excel on soft snow while others rip on ice. There's nothing wrong having one ski for each. Or one for fresh powder and another one for when the powder turns into crud, etc.

So, what do you see in the Burning' that you're missing in the Olympic Victory?

Gee overlap - I was thinking boots. But in a stable of skis, maybe not so good. But as Marigee says, they are all different. If you really, really, need them, then why not. And your Volkl's are race skis, so.....

What was the question????

Get em!!

SnowHot--
I demo'd those Race Tiger RC's last spring--WOW!! I'd love to get a pair, but their application is rather narrow, so I'll go a little more broad.... another thread coming up soon.

I'm actually too much of a spendthrift to have contemplated that thought for very long. I basically thought, "Hey look, what a great price! Wait. I need money for lift tickets."

I am wanting a pair of Atomic Sugar Mamas so very much----they were awesome on the icy/slushy/mixed conditions we had in the West last year. They rocked.

Then I'd like a pair of Head Sweet Fat Thangs for hiking/backcountry. I snagged a pair of Garmont boots at REI garage sale for $69.

Then....I want a pair of Arcteryx hard shell Thetas----

Cha ching.

dloveski, you and I are thinking the same thing.........
I guess I really don't have to explain my thinking in this circle of women.

I'm fine with overlap, but I do have a question: unless conditions are obvious when you leave for a day of skiing, how do you decide which skis and how many pairs to load into the car?
