Ordering Vision 73's, need help !

I need help !! I can't decide which length of ski I should go with.
Details of the skier: 5"3", 119 lbs, intermediate/advanced ,
currently skiing on Atomic C7 at length of 158 cm, having no trouble carving all kinds of turns. Just want a ski that will take me over more types of terrain. Have demoed recently: Salomon Siam Origin at 153 cms, Salomon Siam 8 at 153 cm, and the Salomon Mynx at 158 cm, and had the most fun with the Mynx. The snow that day was all powder.
I have not been able to demo the Visions, as they are not available at any places I have been. I have been able to look at them at a local ski shop, but they are too expensive.
I am leaning towards the shorter ski at 152 cm (or 153 ?)
So if anyone can give me their thoughts I would really appreciate the help....thanks !

Well, we've been discussing ski length and the Vision 73 for a while in these forums. You will find lots of information and opinions at https://www.theskidiva.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1067 and elsewhere here.

Either the 152 or the 158 would work for you, so it's really too bad you can't demo both. I demoed the Vision 70 in 152 and 158 and found a significant difference between the two, and a clear "best" emerged after demoing.

According to my information (from an experienced ski tech), you are at the cutoff height for 152 cm. Your weight is average, so normally you would go with 152 UNLESS THERE IS SOME OTHER DETERMINING FACTOR, which there may well be. So you need to consider your ability, your preferred style (turn length, speed), usual snow conditions, and terrain you ski on.

Examples: short turns: short ski. Agressive skier: longer ski. Powder: longer ski. And so on. You need to list all those factors, figure out which ones are most important to YOU, and balance them out.

You will find different opinions on best length among our posters because we all have our preferences, some of them idiosyncratic (which is fine!). Myself: 5'5", 175 lbs, advanced intermediate; both long and short turns; groomed only; Eastern hardpack. I have the Fischer Vision 70, 158 cm. Main factor for me is my weight.

The Salomon Mynx is an all-mountain expert ski. If you were happy on that at 158 cm, then my guess is that you would also be happy with the Vision 73 at 158 cm.

There are women at this site who are close to you in height and weight and who have the Vision 70 or 73. They will be able to advise you. Stay tuned! :D

I have been looking at the thread on ski length....
More info about me the skier..... age is 42...ski aggressive....like faster speeds, but don't mind slowing down now and then. Can experience many types of conditions, skiing in the Cdn Rockies. After mulling over the info and your reply, I think the choice should be the longer ski !
I never thought that I would have such a tough time with choosing a ski length. Since I am considering ordering the ski from and online retailer, I want to make the best possible choice. I think this is a great ski for the $$, especially after the rave reviews and what the local ski store guy had to say about it. Thanks for your insight Snowglider....I enjoy reading your posts !

One of our posters is, I believe, your height and weight and an expert skier (Eastern hardpack, though) and she went with the 152 in the Vision 70. Some folks are away skiing today so if you wait until Monday you will most likely get other replies.

Personally, I found that I didn't lose anything in the short turns by opting for 158 rather than 152, but I'm taller and heavier than you---but less agressive and not fond of speed.

I think the 152 will certainly support your height and weight, BUT: your agressiveness, speed, and powder may well make the 158 right for you.

I agonized over the same question. It was only resolved by demoing. But you and many others here have pointed out that you can't always demo and so you have to make your best educated guess.

Yes, everyone here seems to like the Vision 70 and 73. What price did you find for the 73???

I too demoed one ski in 2 different lengths and found significant differences between them. The longer ski was more stable at speed and better in cruddy snow yet gave up little to nothing in short turns. Like Snowglider, though, I'm an agressive skier and heavier than you, but I'd go with the longer of the 2.

My question though......If you just loved the Mynx, why are you ordering an entirely different ski and one that you haven't even demoed? (Hope that didn't sound snotty...I'm just curious).

The Mynx were great ! I want a ski that will be a good all around ski, for the days when we go to the hill that is all groomed runs (or whatever conditions I may ski). I didn't get enough time on groomed runs the day that I demoed the Mynx. I found out about the Vision 73 at a ski shop and they couldn't say enough good things about it ....went home that day and saw the reviews on this forum also. I just think it will be a good all around ski for me......

Yes, that's an excellent price! I paid close to that for the Vision 70.

Ahh but the problem for me is getting them to Canada! I have to convert that to CDN $$, which equates to about $382, + 7% GST, and duty and shipping costs. When all is said and done, if I buy the 73 I will pay close to $500 cdn, still cheaper than ski shop price + tax.

hehehe !! Yes, our province is beautiful. I keep telling my kids how lucky we are to be so close to the spectacular Rocky Mountains, which we get to look at on a daily basis.
That is a nice review on the 73's. I think it is a great ski for the price, a bit of a hidden gem.

Well, I ordered the Vision 73's and they arrived today ! Finally!
I can't wait to try them out....can't go until I get back from a trip this weekend. Will probably have to wait until the first week in May.....heard from a friend that was at Sunshine Village on Saturday that the snow was still awesome up there !!

Thanks everyone for your help !! I am quite sure that I am going to love these skis.....I had a gut feeling that they would be a good ski for me, even though I didn't get to demo them. They are six cms shorter than my current ski. I thought I was going to have to get the bindings mounted, but they came installed !!
