Opinion on these used skis

I have been considering a second set of skis. One ski I have been looking at is the Head Fast Thang. I found a used pair on Evogear
https://www.evogear.com/Head/outlet_item_8191_763.aspx. This looks like a good deal. I had a question about the bindings. I have always thought demo bindings seemed very heavy. If I get a pari of used demo skis will I want to change out the demo binding on them?

Secondly, I was at the ski shop getting my oldes son boots yesterday - and getting mine tweaked. The guy who helps me all the time and who works on my boots seconded my choice of the Head Fast thing as a good ski for me. He told me he was so sure I would like it that he would buy it back from me if I bought it from them and didn't like it. Do I buy it new (for much more$) and patronize the shop that has given me good service (this is NOT the shop where the salesperson insulted me) or get a good deal. I spend quite a bit of money there last week between tune ups, new boots and junior leases for my twins among other purchases.

Thanks all!

I agree. I think you will love those skis. I have Heads, and I think they're great.

Here's what realskiers.com says about the '07 Fast Thangs:

Updated: Female-specific carver. Typical comments from test skiers: "Great carving ski; turns fast and it's light!" "Very turney-Loved it!"

I'm a bit confused about your take on the bindings, though. Those are the bindings that come on them -- they're not special "demo" bindings, and they are quite heavy. My Heads have Tyrolias, too, and that's just the way they are. For me, it isn't a problem, since I'm not lifting them (well, just to carry them to and from the car) -- I'm sliding on them.

Anyway, IMHO, it's a great deal. New, the '07's can run you over $700. At that price, I'd get 'em from Evogear. If the guys at your local shop are as good as you say they are, they'll understand. Besides, they already get a lot of your business. They can share.

Marigee, don't be intimidated by the weight of demo bindings. Though they are a bit heavier, that weight will not be an issue when you ski. The convenience of demo bindings is an easy switch if you have a friend ski with you who needs to borrow them. I have demo bindings on more than one pair of skis, and have no regrets.

Go get 'em!

Sorry, Marigee. I thought you were wondering about Tyrolia bindings in general, which are heavy, and that you thought other bindings came on the newer models.

Yeah, demo bindings are fine. You won't have any problems with those.

Congratulations! I took a punt on a pair at the end of last season and love them! Hold an edge like nothing I've ever skied

End the suspense: Who'd you get them from, the shop or evogear?

Let us know when you try them out. I think you're going to love 'em.

I bought them from evogear. $299.99 with free shipping was too good to pass up. Besides, following Snowhots way of accounting, I just saved about $400.00 which I can now spend on other gear!:D

They were the 2006 model - I like them just "okay." Our snow has been very soft and kind of like mashed potatoes most of the season. They are better for harder packed snow and even a bit icy conditions. I got them used and may sell them at a swap next fall. I have used them a few times at my local mountain where I work. They may stay in my (very small) quiver as rock skis. We have had some very poor conditions this winter and I have to ski when I'm scheduled to work, regardless of conditions (like trails half-covered with snow, half with mud!)
