One thing to over come....

If there is one thing you want to overcome, what is it?

For me, I would like to tackle moguls, and get more comfy with jumping.

Moguls seem to be a speed bump (ha ha) with quite a few of the divas. You go girls you can get it done this year! :p

As for myself I going to overcome my fear of speed in the off piste, namely crud and trees.

DEFINITELY moguls. As I said in another post, I ski 'em as long as they're not too big, steep, or icy -- which is how they are, most of the time. I envy those skiers who can rip right through 'em. I know it takes a tremendous amount of practice to get that way.

Snowflake: I would love to get into back country skiing. I am envious of Mountaingirl on Epic. She is amazing. Michigan, though doesn't offer back country opportunities, at least not around my area.
You go for it! Get an extra Grin for me:D

I'll do my best
Remember if you or any other divas come out this way let me know. I'd love to ski with any of you.

An old thread, but something worth revisiting. Care to add your thoughts?

:fear:Fear of steeper slopes. As soon as I crest a rise in the slope, I tend to slow down checking for one of those unexpected drops that brings your stomach into new real estate. I must conquer this habit and just continue on, or I will never gain those skills necessary to "go for it."

2 things for me:

- confidence & speed in trees, powder, crud, or any combination, since this is what I ski 90% of the time.

- drops

Half pipe!

I used to be able to get some small amount of air off of it. But I seemed to have lost it (or my nerve). This has a lot to do with my inability to let go of the edges in steep terrain. So the work probably has to be done on the flat to get it back.

To air is human!

Oh my gosh...This me is....

I find myself bailing if when I stop just before dropping in. My legs tend to shakes so much that I loose all confidence! I get slower and that makes it so hard to turn:eek::eek::eek:

I know there's nothing wrong with keeping to the more challenging blues, but I really want to get onto the blacks with confidence. I've been skiing for 6 years and can count the number of different Blacks on one hand. I'll do the ones I feel comfortable with over and over. For me it's more about the length of the run. I'm okay if the run's short....and I when I say short...I mean short... <100m:laughter:

Thanks to my ski coach ski buddy, I'm working on overcoming my bad habits.

I'm close---I will Angulate Angulate Angulate consistently on the steeps.

Big moguls---not so interested, I'd rather go b/c on those types of days.

Thanks for reviving old threads that are still relevant! For those of you who posted before--how are your answers different today?

As for me, I want to overcome my bad habits. I've read so much in books and online and taken exactly one private alpine lesson (the group I did last spring doesn't count for so many reasons), so I've drilled all kinds of ideas without ever finding out what it is that I need to learn.

I came up with all kinds of answers, but it all boils down to that--replacing all my ideas and strange habits!

Oh, I guess I could substitute that with overcoming my stance problems. My turns are now even but with the most recent changes to my right boot, my skis converge when I'm running straight on flattish ground! I don't catch edges anymore, but it's just strange!

For me it's steepness through trees. I can handle steepness. I can handle trees. But put a tight and steep line through trees and I balk. I end up doing that cross weave thing to get down. I watch my hubby just take off going straight down, and I can't do it. I have a fear of not being able to turn quick enough to avoid a tree. I have some 6th sense around speed, pitch and closeness of trees (I usually hug the edge of a trail) that keeps me out of trouble. But also stops me dead in my tracks in the woods. I am not sure I'll ever overcome it until all trees are covered in bubble wrap lol. Not sure it's something I want to overcome, it may be a reasonable fear lol.

Other than that, I can't think of anything. I want to go more places, but can't think of much I can't do. This is when people usually turn to telemarking ha ha.

Air time and big bumps are my hang-up.

I don't really want to learn to "jump" as much as I'd like to become comfortable making small to medium mandatory drops. I have the same mental block on the bike, too. :(

When skiing through trees... If I am following someone through them, I am pretty confident.. I KNOW I can turn when I want to turn... So why can I follow someone through the trees no problem, and fall apart when I have to choose my own line through the trees????

Next winter, when I look for backcountry ski buddies I am going to be 100% comfortable with my fitness level.. THERE will be NO OMG I hope I can keep up, because damn it, I CAN keep up!

I tend to stop at the top of a steep slope, looking for the perfect line, waiting for the slope to clear, etc. And of course the more you look the worse it gets.

Today was so empty I didn't feel a compulsion to wait for others to go down before I started. I just skied directly into the slope, and kept turning. Didn't stop until I was past the steepest part. This technique seemed to work and definitely got me down much faster.

I intend to work on this over the next couple of days.

Next trick: skiing a slope that is both steep and mogully, with decent technique.
