Old trail maps

I have a stash of trail maps from the early 70s ... I posted the Copper version (1972, Copper's first year) in another thread, but I thought some of you might find these kinda fun. The scans are kind of hard to read ... but all the prices on the ABasin map are great. (Or not so great, depending on your point of view ...) The Keystone map explains the history of the names of the runs (mining stuff).

This is Beaver Creek from its second year open. (It was with a bunch of real estate brochures that my dad tossed aside at the time, thinking, "Vail's stepchild: that'll come to nothing." whoops.)

Taos -- this one is really hard to read, which is too bad, because it was pretty cool. That's Ernie Blake cut off on the top of the one photo.

tempis fugit - $5 lift tickets

Wow, these are great, thanks for taking the time to scan/post. I saw the Copper map you posted yesterday, I first visited in early '75, it didn't look a whole lot different (a few more trails) than the map posted.

Maybe when the season winds down, more of us will have time to do this as well. I recently scored a whole season of Skiing magazines as a gift to DH - dated 1968. There are tons of amazing ads, etc. Sounds like we could probably get a whole "retro"/remember this section underway!

Awsome, I love retro ski stuff. We watched a guy this seekend skiing under the chair in the proverbial yellow and rust powderhorn with the army issue wool pants on at least 208 K2's in perfect to die for form. He was amazing to watch, and what good memories he brought back. Thanks for posting these, how fun to look at.

Well, it's not as old school as Pinto's trail maps, but a few months ago, I was going through some of my stuff still at my parents' house and found a Mad River trail map from the early 90s that I'd buried away as a momento. It being MRG meant that the map was in blue ink only, matte, almost photocopier paper. Lol.

Wow, thank you Pinto for posting! Question, do you know what year the A basin one is from? I think my dad may have been coaching there that season.

Will be interesting to know if the map does have a season date on it. Based on the lift ticket prices, I'm going to hazard a guess at early 70's - between 71-74??

Well, it mentions a policy that was instituted in the 70-71 season that is still in effect so it's at least 71-72. My dad coached there before I was born and before the 76-77 season when he coached at Vail. Oddly, he coached there one of the guys who is a current coach on my team.

Yeah, I'm going to guess it was 71-72, because it was described as a "new" policy initiated in 70-71.
