Off to the mountains. . .

Trying to get this crazy family packed seems to take all day (when someone's still in diapers and a 4yo is in ski school, the amount of necessary underpants and layers and snacks and wipeys is kind of absurd). . . but we should be headed to the mountains in a few short (long?) hours. With an obscenely full car.

Aspen until Tuesday lunchtime.
Then Minturn/Vail until next Saturday morning.

In-laws will be along to help wrangle small people and play in the snow. . . and they are very excited to get a week to play with their grandchildren and see big mountains and snow, since they live in the South.

Skiing for sure tomorrow and Monday (at Snowmass, probably, since that's where the 4yo will be in ski school) and Wednesday. I'll probably try to ski for at least a few hours every day, aside from Tuesday, when we are changing residences and I am trying to do a little snowshoe uphilling with my sister, who will overlap with us in Aspen for a couple of days.

. . . if I can ever get us out the door. . .

Have a wonderful time ... it will all be worth it, I promise!!

I do not miss the days of packing up the little ones for overnighters, though. It's like going to war. Add to it the ski stuff, and wow. We had a Suburban that was always full to the gills. (Part of that was the dog's fault.)

Mollmeister........there are only two of us and I'm having exactly the same experience. DH and I are off to Tahoe for a long week-end (note we are not skiing today as we still have not left..AAARGH!!!!). Oh well, two days of skiing.

Nevertheless skiing with DH is a big treat as he doesn't have the same motivation level (but maybe that could change...either way) and I've improved so we now spend more time skiing together!!:ski2: :yahoo:

Hope your trip is fantastic! Thank goodness for help with the kids. Sounds like a great trip for...once everything is organized and rolling.................:eyebrows:

Just think if you ever need to redo your resume could state that you have experience in packing and moving logistics. Anyone else would think you're off of a year right, not a week's vacation.

It gets easier, I promise. I'm not sure I would have had the patience to ski and ride on road trips with little ones. I started skiing in '05 and they started in '06 when they were ages 9-12. Now they are ages 11-14 and they carry their own equipment and Transpacks. I'm on a (non-ski) trip right now with my 14 yr. old and while I helped her figure out what to pack, she did the packing and managed her own luggage.

That said, when I am skiing with my kids, it's very different than when I'm skiing alone. I ski with them and go at their pace, and if they are skiing or riding alone at our local hill (or with friends), I check in on them and look up at the lifts to keep track of where they are. Recently my 11 yr. old was with some girls who I identified as better skiers, and I stayed with them and was glad I did 'cause they tried to take her onto trails and into the woods, beyond her ability, and this way I could stay with her so she wasn't alone and didn't feel pressured to join them.

Have a great trip!
