I'm going to see it tomorrow night, and was wondering if anyone else has seen it yet.

I'll be sure to post a review.

I saw it on Friday. Honestly, with the warm weather we've had here in the NE, I was excited just to see some snow and some people sliding on it! People love to trash Warren Miller movies, and while I agree they have lost some of the wit and humor they used to have, they are still fun to watch. My favorite segment was the part from Kashmir. Hope you enjoy it!

I saw it saturday in philly. It really got me excited for the season. Now if only it would snow....

Enjoy!

Keep us in suspense! We're going on 12/1
I'm still working out the details of the weekend to figure that out.
WE (as in me, my husband and our friends family) are obligated to meetings in LANSING for the entire weekend, for Motorcycle club stuff.
How ironic is that?

It might even be safe to admit here that I like Warren Miller movies, without being ridiculed!

Mind you, I don't think there's such a thing as a 'bad' ski movie.

There have been some WM's that are better than others, but cheesy commentary aside, I really like skiing filmed in resorts where I might actually ski one day, or have skiied, rather than just extreme heli-served terrain, that for me has no basis in reality at all.

We'll see it here in late May-early June next year, which always means the season here is getting closer. We usually go to see it with a big group of friends, make a night of it with dinner and drinks and making plans.

Bad ski movie - Willi Bogner's Fire and Ice. "Suzyyyyyyyyyy" It's a classic for our bad ski movie night. I was shopping on Saturday and Bogner has Zip-necks out and on the breast is the Bogner logo and "fire and ice" That movie has to be 15 years old. Miller films sell out here in Ontario when they're shown. Haven't seen this one yet, missed the local screening. They usually show it at Tremblant the first of December weekend. So maybe then, or on Pay-per-view Christmas day!!

I love those really old ski movies you see sometimes on RSN; the B&W ones from the thirties or forties where there's no dialogue -- just music -- and it's men (most often, men) with really long wooden skis skiing, jumping, etc. I don't know how they managed in that old equipment, but it's a blast to watch!

Okay, so I just got back from seeing the WM movie. And it was....okay. I mean, it really got me psyched for skiing (as if I need any more of that!). And I love to see the exotic locales (the segment on Kashmir was great). But frankly, I got a little tired of all the jumping off cliffs and the aerial stuff (why would you want to jump off a 250 ft cliff? Yes, you read that right). A little of that goes a long way with me, but I guess I'm not the 20 year old man who I guess is their target audience. Me, I just kept thinking, "God, you could get killed doing that! Or at least paralyzed." I just like to watch them ski. For me, that's enough.

(I just re-read this, and boy, do I sound like a stick in the mud! Or, as my husband says, an old stick in the mud. Still, I stand by my assessment.)

Actually, Ski Diva, I'd agree with your assessment. After awhile, all the aerials look the same. I'd rather see some technically great skiing through trees or down a slope that make me go, "Hey, can we rewind that so I can watch it more slowly and maybe learn something?"

However, like you, I'm not the target audience. The exotic locales were pretty to look at, but some of the segments seemed pointless. Oh, and that 250 ft. jump off a cliff? Did he really need skis for that, seeing as how he just cratered? Puh-leeze.

Me too!

I passed on the movie. Watching extreme daredevil skiing is boring, ironically. I just can't relate. Like Ski Diva said, a little goes a long way.

Boy, am I in the right place! Reading your posts put a smile on my face! BatGirl, you and I are so on the same page. I feel the same way about wishing I could rewind and watch what they were doing. A wasted opportunity, indeed.

Haven't seen this year's yet, but I know from the last couple -

I really miss the old WM footage of the Eastern and Midwestern resorts, the parking lot/bunny hill/ski lift scenes, and all the other things that make a WM movie truly different from all the other 'ski movies'.

Just watching people huck big cliffs, ski big lines, and hop out of helicopters at places I'll never get to go to just gets old after a while.

I'm in agreement with the opinions about the jibbers...kinda cool at first, but gets old fast. I appreciate it because kids enjoy it, however, I can only watch so many rail slides. I always wonder how many takes are required to get good footage and how many of those takes are big biffs. (FWIW...my ski patrol buddy says they call the terrain park the "Trauma Park").

But I really do LOVE the WM films, and he really touches on all the aspects of skiing.

But more than anything I just love watching people ski in wicked deep and light powder. The Wasatch chest-deep snorkel skiing is really what gets me going.

But overall, Off-the-Grid was excellent and I spent most of it with my jaw dropped.
