NYC 5-Boro Bike Tour

I'm so bummed... I'm sitting here at home when I could have been biking through the city today. Maybe it's my fault because technically I could have gone alone, but I just knew I wasn't going to enjoy it much without my friends with me. The 2 girls I usually do it with (this would have been my 4th year) both backed out very last minute due to health issues. I completely understand their situations, but I'm still sad!

Has anyone here ever done that ride?? (Obviously if you're participating today you won't be first to reply, LOL)

When I was in NYC right after 9-11, I took a bike tour through the city. It was a way to relieve stress from the people working down at the site (I was there for 10 days assigned to the Firestation on 8th St. in the Theater District). It was really wondeful, and I got to see NYC like I would never have before.

I'm sorry your friends bugged out on you. I did the ride alone and met some great people! It wasn't the one you're talking about, but it was a fabulous ride!

Are the Daffodils still in bloom? I love the Daffodils they planted in NY!

I think they may well be past daffodils at this date, K. This is what we saw last May 9 in NYC:

With 30k people riding, you would have made a couple of new friends easily.

I've done it many times, but since that mess downtown they are very strict about registration and it tends to sell out. You used to be able to register on the day. I've been rained on enough times on that tour to want to have a better idea of the weather before I commit.

I've never done the 5-Boro -- it seems like we always have plans for the first weekend in May. Last year we did the 55-mile ride in the Century and it was really fun:

Looks like the Tour de Brooklyn is coming up over Memorial Day weekend, too (though I'll be skiing at a-basin :D).

PM me if you're ever wanting to do one of these and don't have anyone to go with -- I'm always up for rides.
