Anyone hear this? What do you think?

She said one of the women in the group saw improvement even though it had been a year since she gave birth. Hmmm. I was wondering about 28 years . . .

Huh. I was skeptical because I thought they were just talking about some extra weight, but this actually looks closer to PT to fix damage done by the delivery process. Also interesting that they recommend against a bunch of abdominal exercises that will actually make it worse.

I have not had children but I had never had anything that resembled a six pack before starting pilates. The pilates abdominal exercises are amazing and they work quickly. What is really interesting is that we only do 10-12 of each exercise before moving on to the next. It is incredible how difficult they are. Of course, all are done with emphasis on proper spine alignment.

I think this article is really misleading because its making it seem like every woman who has had a kid and carries excess weight in their midsection suffers from DR. If you have this issue, yes these exercises will likely help. But not everyone has DR and you can't spot reduce to just get rid of belly fat. Sometimes after you have kids things just get stretched out a bit and you carry more weight in your midsection (I have noticed this myself, and I didn't have DR with any of my pregnancies).

K.

Huh. I thought DR was permanent once it happened, and that you could strengthen the muscles, but they'd never be the way they were pre-pregnancy.

Yeah, I followed the link all ready to rage-post about how you can't spot reduce fat ANYWHERE on your body, but it sounds like this could be really helpful to a subset of ex-pregnant people (plus, as @Robyn mentioned, others as well). It really sounds like a form of physical therapy, with a misleading headline of "mummy tummy" (I thought we'd declared our independence from GB? "Mummy"?)
