Nordica Women's skis same as their Unisex?

Sooo...I may have learned something from the Nordica Rep. today or not.

So..I'm demoing the Firefox, first in 154 and then 162. I brought the 154 back and we were chatting about women specific skis and he said that Nordica's "women's skis" were actually the same as the unisex. I asked what the Firefox was the equivalent to and he told me the Mach 2. I asked about forward mounting; again he said that they were the same as the unisex (not 2cm forward).

I hadn't heard this about Noridica before, was it complete BS?. That was my first thought...but I know there are a bunch of divas on here who will be able to set the record straight...thanks

Hmmmm,
I was at a nordica rep dinner last year. I found out that the Fire Fox is one of thee skis that Nordica built from the ground up with a very specific design. There is not a ski in the Nordica line up that is Just like it, according to the Factory guy who spoke to us. He described the way the base is shaped to help set an edge and then release so that you get that zip that makes you go VRoooooom!

Maybe they have designed a mens ski in their line up to mimic the Fire fox. That'd be a switch, eh?

Sierraskis says the Firefox's unisex counterpart is the Speedmachine. ?

Here's the review:

Katherine says: New to the Nordica Olympia line, the Firefox offers unrelenting on-piste performance for the expert female skier. Similar to its unisex counterpart the Speedmachine, the Firefox provides better stability and edgehold at speed on the groomed trail. Since it is made for the expert female, however, it is lighter and a little bit softer making it less difficult to control which equals more fun and less work, a winning combo. This ski being narrower underfoot (70mm) firmly places it into the 90/10 category, definitely lending itself to gals who prefer to stay on the groomed run. The Firefox is fully integrated with the Marker 3-11 Ti XB ADJ. which utilizes the "X Balance Effect" which redistributes pressure along the length of the ski aiding in stability and control.

The Firefox shines at short to medium sized turns, because of its narrow waist and generous sidecut. Confidently, this Nordica will hold an edge at the highest of speeds and even in some of the more unfriendly snow conditions such as the dreaded, early morning ice -- YUCK. I was interested in the new carver from Nordica. I had expectations, of course, but I was pleasantly surprised at its combination, like I mentioned before, of stability, quickness and overall lightness. Move over Speedmachines, there's a new girl in town!

How are you liking it? I can't WAIT to buy...er, I mean, DEMO this ski. :D

Snowhot: That's what I was thinking...I am under the impression that Nordica is one of the companies that does build from the ground up in their women's line.
The guys working the tent were young...so I'm not really surprised that they would be spewing out bad info....but I was curious.

The Nordica 08-09 collection: Pleasure, performance and versatility
Sports
Press release from: Nordica Canada
PR Agency: Groupe CK7
(openPR) - (Montreal, Quebec) January 2008 – The season is off to a passionate start at Nordica, with two new models for backcountry enthusiasts: the Jah Love and the Zero. And for those seeking a solution that brings together on and off-piste skiing, the new Hot Rod HellDiver answers the call. In the Front Racer ski category, the Spitfire Pro joins the already acclaimed Dobermann Spitfire, much to the excitement of precision skiers. Women also score big this season, with the addition of the XBi CT system to the Olympia Speed model and the official launch of the Firefox, the women’s version of the Spitfire.

The new arrivals in this year’s collection include:

Jah Love (Side cut 167-140-157) The widest ski on the market.
These skis are so close to heaven you’ll feel as light as an angel on them. With the Jah Love, you’ll experience the height of epic skiing. With a 140 mm waist, 167 mm tip, 157 mm tail and wood construction, these skis are built to float, regardless of the depth of powder you’re on. And with a jaw-dropping, Rasta-inspired reggae look, you’ll want to dance your way down the hill.

Zero (Side cut 130-104-130)
The Zero is a twin tip ski built for the backcountry, new school skier. In a stark departure from current trends, this ski has no camber; it is completely flat, thus eliminating the dead time when stopping in snow and maximizing performance for high altitude addicts. The Zero has been designed purely to satisfy the needs of Nordica’s athletes who are pushing the limits of progressive skiing. Its symmetrical design allows for performance needed skiing switch with a perfect tip and tail shape to stomp difficult landings in soft snow.

Hot Rod HellDiver XBi CT (Side cut 132-90-118)
This is a ski that leaves you ready for anything. The carbon version of the HotRod Hellcat (titanium), it has been designed for all-mountain skiers looking for versatility, stability and just a dash of insanity. The new version is easier to manoeuvre over difficult terrain.

Dobermann Spitfire Pro.
A true revolution in the philosophy of high-performance skis, with its combination of two side cuts and a round rather than oval radius, the Spitfire burst onto the market last season. The Spitfire Pro is a version that offers a higher degree of rigidity than the regular model, with a wood core that impresses its master, while obeying the skier’s every move. It remains one of the lightest skis on the market, and all lengths are designed for a 12 to 15.5 metre radius.

Firefox
The women’s version of the Spitfire, introduced following a strong demand by consumers, the Firefox was officially launched this season.

Nordica technology spells performance: XBi CT and NFS
The integrated X Balance system (XBi), which offers seasoned skiers greater rigidity and precision, was introduced last season. Its lighter, quick adjustment formula, the XBi CT (Central Table), has since been integrated into all of Nordica’s performance skis.

Sportmachine, a new line of performance boot, has also been introduced, offering Nordica’s Natural Foot Stance (NFS) technology, adapting to the natural position of the foot, which is not completely straight. This technology provides enhanced turn initiation with stronger edge grip and better ski control throughout the entire turn. Initially developed for racers, the consumer version is slightly less angular; with the heel still used as a pivot point, the NFS veers the foot towards the outside edge.

And finally, the colourful and distinctive look of Nordica’s ski and boot collections will surprise and delight skiers with their audacity, bold choice of colours, and unique identity.

I think the Spitfire and the Firefox are the same ski. Last year The Firefox was available in the US but not in Europe while the Spitfire was available in Europe but not the US :noidea: I think they are both available everywhere this year but if you look at the Nordica website you will see they have identical spec, technology etc.

From our Nordica rep:

"All Nordica Olympia skis are womens specific. While the side cuts, shapes and sizes are the same as mens (from the same molds). Materials such as wood cores, carbon and Titanium are different lighter or softer. In some cases we use a layer of alu foil as oppossed to titanium to make the ski lighter."

Thanks Dean!

Cool, thanks Jilly, that makes sense...sounds like the guys were just over generalizing and a wee bit careless with the specifics of the skis.
