Nordica Firefox purchase: did I goof?

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum (excited to have found this place!) and would appreciate some feedback.

Last weekend, I bought the Firefox at the recommendation of the ski shop folks. I'm a third year East Coast skier who wanted to replace my Volkl Attivas, which were 142s. I'm 5'4" and an athletic 150 lbs. and felt these were too short. I ski greens and blues comfortably but still have some work to do to improve my turns. I was advised that this would be a good ski for someone of my skill -- I'd be able to enjoy them now but still be able to grow. I went with 154s. But now, after doing some poking around on the 'net, I'm a bit panicked that the Firefox seems to be geared toward the expert -- which is not where am I at.

Would appreciate any input or advice from those familiar with this ski.
TIA!

Cathy

Hi runninteach! Well I have couple of questions. Which Attivas were you on? Was it just the length that made you replace them? Did you feel that you had out grown them. If you are fairly aggressive I think that you'll be alright. The firefox does have an awesome taper angle to help you enter into the new turn quickly. I think that it is quite snapy and lively. I have it in a 162 cm, I'm 5'5 138 lb and a very strong skier. It was designed to meet the needs of the more aggressive female skier. I have lots of students who have not yet reached that upper tier of ability, however they are still plenty aggressive enough to handle that ski. ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING! That is true in both life and in skiing! Does the shop have a performance guarentee? If it does go ahead, give them a try, start out on gentle terrain and have at it! If they feel like they are to much for you try the "Nordica Fox" it is softer and more forgivving of mistakes in technique. I honestly think you'll be fine with the "Firefox" it is just one of those skis that works really well for a wide variety of abilities.:D I get new skis every season and this has been my favorite pair in a long time! That ski just rocks!!

Hi perma-grin! Thanks for your reply. I was on Attiva S1s. I felt the length was wrong for me. I rented 155s and felt comfortable, so I went to the ski shop my BIL had recommended for its personalized service. I did tell the sales rep that I felt the Attivas were too slow and that I wanted to pick up *SOME* speed, but in no way did I ever suggest that I'm an aggressive skier. I'm happy on blues and greens and am not (nor do I aspire to be) some kind of kamikaze daredevil. Not sure about the performance guarantee. My BIL has my paperwork as he picked up the skis for me the other day. (I live an hour away.) Boy, am I as green as they come or what?

I wouldn't sweat this too much. If you are not sure about your options call the store and ask to talk with your sales person. Tell him about the reservations your having about the skis. Ask him what your options are if these skis are more you can handle. If it's a specialty shop they want you to be happy with your purchase, because they want you to come back and by more equipment from them in the future! It is a whole lot cheaper to keep an established customer than to go out and find new ones. They need you more than you need them. And they know this, especially in today's economy. Have fun, relax this is suppost to be fun!:ski2:

OK, now here's something REALLY embarrassing, but I guess I'll own up to it. Turns out I didn't actually buy the Firefox. I bought the DRIVE. Duh!! (In case you're wondering how anyone could possibly be this stupid, I don't have the skis or paperwork in my possession. I am going to pick them up from my DS & BILs up in PA tomorrow.) You see, the uh, Firefox and the Drive were right next to each other in the store, and I must have mixed up the names.   I hope you'll forgive a newbie for panicking for nothing.

Permagrin, I do appreciate your replies and encouragement nonetheless!!

O-M-G!!! You crack me up!!! :ROTF: Don't feel too dumb. Last spring I was really frazzeled running around trying to pick up last minute items for my sons graduation open house that afternoon. I came flying out of the local grocery store in a panic because I was running late! I dashed around the parking lot trying to find my minivan. I couldn't find it!! I was almost hysterical! How could this be happening to me?! And worse who for God's sake would steal a minivan???? I called home sobbing to mr. Perma-grin, Someone took my van, it's gone!!!! His deadpan reply: it's in the drive way you took the truck!! Didn't you look at the fob? Well no, I didn't. Talk about feeling dumb. So your not alone in the smooth zone.:D

Hey Perma-grin - Peyton Manning might want your minivan if it's got a turbo engine or flames.:becky:
