No more "Shrink it and Pink"

Oh and the manufacturers are finding that out. It's not "shrink it and pink it" anymore. Look at all the women's specific stuff out there. I only wish some manufacturers would make more high end stuff. I'm not talking about just skis - clothes that looks good and are technical and warm!!

Jilly you nailed a point I wanted to make eariler.
Clothing and how the industry is changing.
I don't think they are making postive changes in the Diva clothing!

For instance.........I weigh 130 lbs 5'6".
I tried on so many snow pants I could have called it my daily work out. I ended up buying a pair of Columbia Size Large because they fit.
If I wear a large, what does the women who weighs 150-180 lbs wear?

really like the style of some of the current clothing, mixing blues and browns, with interesting designs but c'mon......Large. I really feel bad for the girl who has that extra 10-20 lbs.

On the other end of the scale -- and this was covered in another thread -- what about those of us who are, shall we say, vertically challenged? At 5'-1", finding snow pants that aren't too long is incredibly difficult (as it is with all clothing, come to think of it). My old ski pants were actually a kids size. Then last year I actually found a pair in a petite size! Oh for joy, they actually fit!

I'm 5'6" and 66kg (144?) and have a dreadful time getting -nwell trousers of any sort really - but particularly skiing trousers. I have a narrow waist and hips the size of the Titanic lol. With ordinary trousers I can circumvent the problem by just getting low slung waists but that doesn't appeal where snow is involved. And allowing for any actual movement, well...! With one exception so far, I find trousers are uncomfortably tight on my hips and gaping at my waist. The one exception is a great pair of Rossignols I have - which they seem to have stopped making this year. Oh and I have often had to go up to XL. And I have a BMI of 23!!! Don't get me started....

I have a BMI 24.5. And in a large?
My girlfriend who is two real sizes above me when buying regular pants has to buy mens large to get pants to fit
Not attractive at all, and she wants to look like a girl.

I've worn unisex stuff because of ski school for so long I didn't know what size to buy in women's stuff. My Rossi coat is large and the pants are 14. As for Columbia stuff - I know I'm 160 lb, 5'5, and end up in XL. I do find that some of the stuff is expandable with velcro tabs. My Rossi pants fit in the hips, but are large in the waist. The tabs help, but they are almost at the limit chinched in. My Phenix stuff is a 12 women's coat and 14 pants. So what gives eh!! Also its finding that technical, warm, good looking stuff. I was so happy when I found the Rossi coat. I look like a girl with shape!

That's a trick!
Looking like a girl with comfort!

This is my 6 year old Marker Heavy ski coat.
It has a nice fit but hardly shapely with the 6 pockets full of "stuff".
Camera, phone, chap stick, wallet, kleenex, antifog cloth......I bet I weigh 10 extra lbs just with the pocket contents.

Jackets aren't so much of a problem for me. I got a rather nice Schöffel one last year in a fetching lime green  but it's got decent pockets and a waist!

BTW can anyone actually realistically get anything in their ski trouser pockets? The only thing I have a hope of getting in them is car keys - and then pray I don't fall on that side

The solution to that is to wear snowboard pants! I have a couple of pairs of Burton Cargo snowboard pants that hold plenty of stuff. Not much help with looking like a girl, but at least they fit right!

The only thing in my pant pockets are money or keys. My Phenix jacket doesn't have a zip pocket, so I like to know that, that stuff is secure. Now the new Rossi - I'll be like SnowHot, stuff them pockets.

I'm 5'9", 185 lbs., with a 32 in. inseam. Finding a pair of pants - ski, work, or casual - that fit they way they should is always an exercise in patience. Last year, I think I tried on about 10 different kinds of ski pants. I was just about ready to cry in frustration when I finally found a pair of Marmots, size 16, that fit perfectly. The ski clothing industry does not seem to understand that there are some of us who actually have hips and thighs.

You guys are lucky! I am 5'9" and wear an 18/20 or 20/22...try finding Women's ski pants to fit...yeah, right! and the same for the coats! I can't tell you when the last time I had a women's coat was...I think it was in the 80's when all the flourescents were out.

It's pretty sad when someone who wears an 8/10 in regular clothes needs a large and a 12/14 is an x-large. We are NOT barbie dolls! We are real women and want nice things we can move and ski in and still look good. It's next to impossible for me!

For base layers I absolutely LOVE my Snow Angels (I'm 5' 3" 125lbs). They are made only for women and are soft and cuddly as well as warm.

I think street clothes have gone crazy with "vanity sizing". Everything is sized smaller than it used to be, except ski pants. Ski pants are still true-sized. I had to go up 2 full sizes for ski pants.

So true!! It's ridiculous, considering most of the women I know who ski seriously, are not skinny. A lot of them also cycle so they have muscles on their thighs, and well developed glutes!! Are they not getting the message when all the size L-XL's walk out the store first?

They are called " thunder thighs" and I've got a great pair. It's the "buffalo butt" I resent!! Take a good look at the female race pro's!!

So true - but somehow ski wear manufacturers seem to think the average female skier looks more like Ashley Olsen than Anja Persson!!!

Just got back from a Rossi PK and guess what - a PINK t-shirt was the swag for the PK. Not only that I needed at XL to fit. Usually I wear a 12 or 14 at most. What's wrong with this picture??

Hmmmm..I've got 4 less inches and 10-20lbs on you (depending on the season). I can't even get men's XL to fit usually! Argh!!!! Yeah, I know, it's time to lose weight - way easier said than done.
