Yeap definitely! And looks like more snow coming Friday for a few days, could be nice.
Big fingers crossed that some it makes it to the north island as well have our trip up to ohakune next Thursday. They had a wee 2-6 CMS last night as well

Coronet Peak was surprisingly fabulous yesterday morning, given the gloomy forecast. It certainly deterred the crowds. We rolled up casually at 9.30am, with low expectations, but scored a Greengates car park, so straight on the lift, and found boot-deep light dry powder all over the mountain, few other skiers, and unexpectedly great visibility. So much fun! Quite rightly, today's snow report described it as the day of the season. More to come, hopefully, tomorrow and Friday. It was a long wait for that snow!
Remarkables today, on the other hand, had been well wind-scoured, and a lot of the usual stashes under-delivered. We'll try again later in the week.

Hey from dobbo! As the locals call mt Dobson, love this spot and I would go every weekend but it's a bit more of a drive so it's only an occasional visit.
Perfect bluebird day, no wind and the field had 12 cms of snow two days previous so was perfect conditions, and the three of us had a great day. They have a triple chair to half the terrain and a Tbar to the other half, as well as the beginner tows.
Even managed a few trips up the Tbar without feeling like my thighs were gonna die!
And I got to try my new bib pants... I finally took the plunge and bought some from Nobody's princess (Aussie store) and they were really amazing! And purple as well, so I'm nice colour coordinated now LOL
I love them! Great fit all over and they have the secret drop seat, which I have to say works very well.
Anyway, a great day all round and I really enjoyed the skiing, luckily I was able to ski alone a bit and I find that actually helps my confidence a bit.

And of course just after the pic of the three of us, partner head straight off the edge down the slope! Ah I wish I could ski like him
I know I'm late to the party - but so gald to hear you're loving the bib and the drop seat!

Epic conditions here in Queenstown at the moment. We keep having ‘The best day of the season’ it’s the best spring I can remember.
Champagne powder at Coronet Peak this morning. We found so many first lines. Working methodically across the mountain, and taking lesser known traverses.
I was giddy.

Snowtember indeed! I recognise most of where you are on the Peak but haven't ever skiied it in such good conditions - the only powder day I had there I was still hitting some the bulletproof stuff underneath.

Wow great pics !!!
I've been getting supreme fomo over the last few days and torturing myself by looking at all the Southern Lakes snow reports and webcams.
What an amazing Spring you guys are having while we've pretty much all shut up shop.
Meanwhile we've woken up to snow at our place this morning :snow:

It was a pretty amazing day today to wake up to snow this morning, my doggy thought so anyway!

We managed to get to mt hutt both days in the weekend and Saturday was one of the best pow days I’ve ever had… ever! But that’s not saying much cos I’ve barely had any!
it was simply amazing, the snow was like I icing (powdered) sugar all light, puffy and floaty, so much fun! I spent the day on fascination and huirapa, as loads of people went off piste so I enjoyed all the powder on top of the the night before groomed stuff, and hardly anyone came down huirapa, so it was blissfully quiet for me. I did try the odd wee bit off piste along the groomed stuff, and that was fun too.
One day I will go off piste properly but for now this was a great boost to my confidence, i see why people like powder now hahaha… although the 15 cms was probably just enough for me, those big powder days would be exhausting. The weather was passing clouds so there were a few runs which were low vis f
Skiing from snow maker to snow maker, but even that didn’t dent my enthusiasm.

Sunday was another good day, although conditions were still good, just a lot firmer in places, but we did a few like spots that hadn’t had much traffic and were decidedly fun. Again most the day on fascination, I think I’m slowly getting over my fear of the top of that run, which is a relief, cos I actually enjoy the lower half.
No international, DH gp’d for us and yeah nah was his opinion, so stuck where I was and had a great time.
Off to the north island tomorrow night. Fingers crossed we get a day or two at Turoa, looks like they have finally had a good snowfall, although the forecast is for even more snow so we may not get there due to too much snow, wouldnt that be ironic after the lack of it the last month or so.IMG_20240914_105020876.jpgIMG_20240914_090728055.jpgIMG_20240914_105206936.jpgIMG_20240915_084132217.jpg

Well it's been a busy few days, but made it back from the north island and had one really good day at turoa, until it snowed and kinda ended things... Great day though, with DH and his sister and about 8 almost adults 15-21 ages. They spent the day on the beginners slopes which had been revived after a good snow dump, and loved it. We managed to get to the top and managed a few really good runs, but heck there was a whole lotta people!
I actually did my first black run, kinda had no choice as they closed the blue run from the top ( which was so much fun, I was sad about that) and the only run left was a black run so I put on my big girls pants and headed down. DH said I did great and he was impressed at how I weaved my way through the people... I was so intent on being careful around the people that I actually wasn't worried about the black run itself... So funny for me!
DH sister hasn't skied for 23 years, and even though she is probably better than me, I think nerves got the better of her so she called it early and headed back to the kids at the bottom. I reckon she did great and I liked having someone hang out with me for a change lol.
All in all a great trip, with some mountain biking on the old coach road out of ohakune (ebike, so much fun!! And yes we ride across that viaduct/bridge) and a great night out with a nz dj pair ( Che-fu and King kapisi) to top it off.

So good to hear your NI trip went well and those C6 ski's look very tempting !!
Do you think you'll get more days at Hutt?
We were going to go but now that its "Spring" officially and there's only a few hours in the middle of the day where its good we're not going to bother as we still have to pay day pass prices which makes for a very exxy day.
We are really going to be rethinking our pass options next year, I'll get a Porters one and a Hutt one and DH will probably get a Chill Pass as he spends a lot of time at the Clubbies and also a Hutt one. I'd love to be going to the Clubbies as I feel I'm seriously missing out but I cant handle a rope tow anymore with my back issues ... one false move and thats me 'stuffed" for the next few months so its not worth the risk.
I havent put the ski's away just yet .... you never know if in a moment of madness DH decides to spring for a heli day, I doubt it but you never know :laughter:
He's meant to be off to Franz Josef this weekend for a heli touring day with our Son .... weather dependant.... so I'll post some pics if they do go up.

Yeah it's a tricky one with passes with how the seasons have been. We will definitely do a couple more days at Hutt as we do have season passes, and I'm hoping to take the kids up during the holidays, hoping the Friday of the first week as I can't take much time off work.
The early season pass prices are usually ok for hutt, it's worked out about $50 day for us so far and I can pay it off so that works ok.
I couldn't afford day pass rates!

Heli skiing would be amazing, not that I'm capable of that, but DH has done it. I would love to do the Tasman glacier though!
And I would like the clubbies as well but rope tows ugh.... And it would mean more money so it's just hutt and the occasional day elsewhere like Dobson, although it's tempting to get a Dobson pass

You would easily do the Tasman and even though its pricey its certainly worth it, a true bucket list experience. Its super cruisy you literally point and go, its thats easy and the heli landing is really wide and flat , none of the usual heli ski knife edge ridge stuff.
