New Skis?

Ok Gear Gurus- so..... I want to buy some skis but am feeling a bit lost. Recommendations and info would be really appreciated.

About me: I'm quite tall (5'10''), kinda lanky (125lb), but play a lot of sports (especially distance running).

Where I ski: I have been skiing two seasons, and have now progressed to black slopes, beginning bumps and the occasional foray into ungroomed territory. I am an ambitious and fairly aggressive skier who will try most things--mostly because
I have to keep up with my husbnad who is a very accomplished snowboarder (a far less civilised sport in my opinion) - so I imagine I will doing a lot of bumps and steep hills in the future! We ski most weekends in PA, on icy mountains, but try and get out West or to Vermont a couple of times per season. So I think I need a fairly versatile ski (esp as these will be my only skis....until I can convince the husband I really need several pairs).

What I'm looking for: I guess I am looking for something that will not be "too much" ski for me now, but which will also be suitable as I advance over the next few seasons.

I'm going to try and demo some skis when we are in vermont before
buying, and am reading up on models as fast as I can, but I would really welcome suggestions about what to try. It also crossed my mind that at 5'10'' should I try some men's skis?

Thank you!
Grace

I'm not the gear head that divas like SnowHot and Volklgirl are, but here are my thoughts:

Even though you're tall, with your weight I think you'd be better off with a women's ski. And since you ski mostly in PA, I think you're going to need something that's really good on ice and hard pack. Combine these factors with your ability, and you might want to investigate the Volkl AC2, or maybe the Dynastar Exclusive Carve. These are great skis that should hold you for a while.

Anyone else?

First of all you are on the right track.
If you're going to be a recreational skier and not get into racing at this point, I'd head for the Volkl Attiva AC2, or Dynastar as Diva suggests.

With your height and weight, I'd go for something in the 160-170 cm range for length.
BUT Demoing is fun! And Demoing gives you a real feel of the skis.

On another note you might want to try Atomic Metron's, Salomon Rush 8 or 10's, Salomon Siam 10 (a little more all mtn.) and Rossi Z5's. The Z5's are not ladies skis, but I love mine on hardpack and eastern powder. Also that Nordica Victory that someone was talking about should be good on ice too.

thanks so much for your suggestions. Buying skis is just so exciting. I have spent far too long (when I should have been working) today looking at ski websites. I'm really taken by the AC2s at the moment...

You will not regret the AC2's, wether you get them on the Attiva version or the unisex version. If you want a real view from someone who skis on the Attiva AC2, you may shoot Lola a PM. She has some experience on them.
