ok right that would make things easier ha ha. im about 5'6 135lbs, im an intermediate skier, have only skied east cost ( so thats alot of ice and man made snow) i like a smooth ride, not too aggresive with the mountian. ask for any other questions

Mostly what Ski Girl says.
But as an answer to your question, the Supersport is a fine ski, and will probably go down in history as a classic, but .........here's the big but...........
The current line of women's skis by most manufacturers is leaving the 5 star in the dust!

The current women's volkl line is a heckuva kick above the line from last year, let alone two years ago, which is what you're looking at.

Elan, as some may know, is really picking up the pace for women's skis. Nordica Kicks Butt in a huge way, and The Blizzard line up is bringing the aggressive woman skier waaaay beyond anywhere we would have expected a few years ago.

I would recommend the Elan Speed Magic, the Nordica Firefox, or the Volkl Fuego over the Volkl 5 Star at this point.

Sooooo.......
Whatcha thinkin?
Unisex ski, or womens ski?
Skier level?
What terrain?
How many days/year do you ski?

any reason why you are mainly interested in unisex skis? I was for the longest time cause of the ugly and wimpy women's skis but now the ski companies are stepping up and realizing us women can rip. I would definiatly suggest demoing some women's skis you'll be suprised, I know I was. I too am looking for new skis as well and also a Eastern skier. I've demoed the Salomon Siam 10 (last years) and am looking to try the volkl women's line as well as the nordica because of the great things i've heard about them.

I've got a pair of 5-Star Supersports I'm trying to sell--just send the money!! But, really, with what you've written about yourself, I wouldn't recommend them. The carve extremely well, yes, but require a lot of input, which I don't mind, but think I'll better enjoy something a little lighter. That's why I just bought the Volkl Attiva Fuegos, their top women's carver. I can also recommend their Tierras, which I skied on hard-pack last spring, kept up with the boys having their testosterone competition, and really liked them; they'd be a good choice for you and are more all-mountain than the Fuegos. Then, again, the Head and Nordica women's lines are excellent, too.

Seconding QQ's opinion of the 5*. It definitely requires a lot of input and rewards agressive skiing.....not really a "smooth ride" for an intermediate. Also, if you love the feel of the K2s, you'll probably not be real comfortable with the feel of the Volkls.

Do you need to buy? Ski technology is changing so rapidly that unless you ski regularly your skis will be outdated in less than 2 years (and the 5* already is). Try looking into getting high performance rentals or demoing during your vacations instead.

Take the $$ you were going to spend on skis and buy your own boots, the best quality you can afford, and get a professional fitting!! This is where you should spend the big $$$, cuz if your boots suck, it won't matter WHAT ski you're on you'll still be struggling.

I just put a pair of used Volkl Gamma Supersports up for sale in gear swap. (Gamma = the women's version, so not as demanding as the men's)

I am 5'9" 135 lb, for size comparison. I think you could go either here or the next size down.

... the reviews say advanced to expert, but I'd stop short of expert and call them advanced.

They are cheap ($150 includes bindings and shipping) and in good shape. Obviously it depends on your needs ...

I used to have the Volkl Gamma Supersports (pink stars). They actually have the side cut of the 4 star (less of a side cut than the 5 star). I think they'd be great for an intermediate to advanced, not too aggressive and not too heavy skier. They were a little soft for my weight and skiing style and I ended up on the unisex 5 star.
