Up and out of here in 1 hour but had to share the incredibly, wonderful forecast with all: Winter Storm Warning, 12-18" expected, will start later today in Maine, probably already hitting Vermont!
:snow: :snow: :snow: :snow: :snow: :snow:
Added to yesterday's 8" and we are LOOKING GOOD! :ski2:

I am loving 2008 so far!
Happy New Year, and for those of you in the New England area, be careful out there on the roads.

Supposed to hit here (VT) this afternoon. I heard we're getting a foot. A good way to start off the year! :snow: :snow: :snow:

Best part for Sugarloaf is that this much snow could open up the snowfields, a minimally treed area at the summit and behind it that's quite unique to New England. I have not, in 7 seasons, seen it open before March, and some years not at all. Yahoo! :ski2:

I'm actually thinking about hitting Magic, an area here in Vermont that has very little snowmaking and is really only good when there's a lot of natural snow. It's an area I've been meaning to try, and this might just be the time!

Did you make it to Magic today? I'm finally home from Sugarloaf, and it's snowing heavily here. We came upon a very bad accident about 5 miles south of the resort as we left, it had just happened. Thankfully, NO one hurt, but both those cars looked pretty trashed to me. After checking on the 4 people in the 2 cars, a few more came along to help, and we wound up directing traffic one lane at a time (2 lane highway, one lane blocked by wrecked mini-van, other vehicle was off the road in snowbank) until the county sheriff and fire department arrived. Scary stuff.

Just yesterday, with the I-70 debacle in CO and my son traveling to DIA via Hoosier Pass, he mentioned to me that Route 27 to Sugarloaf has been worse. Well, that sure was the case today.

The skiing was great, and the a.m. was deserted as usual on New Year's Day, but all got overshadowed by being among the first on the scene of a terrible wreck :( At least all were okay... So be careful out there - it's rough going with this storm.

No, I may go to Magic tomorrow. Had to work all day today and just watch it absolutely DUMP out the window. If I don't make it there, I'll ski my usual (Okemo).

Right now we're in a lull, but I understand it's going to start back up and give us at least as much as we've already got (about 9 inches). The roads are bad out there, so any New England Divas who have to drive, be careful.

Well, all those snow hit down here early in the AM. I just couldn't move fast enough (safely) to get near any resort! Narrowly missed one accident and saw another SUV down in the ditch but couldn't even lend a hand...

I had to let the snow go. It just didn't feel safe to be on the road driving INTO the teeth of that storm. I felt pretty bummed all morning for missing out on all the powder. But now reading all the accidents (on top of the ones I saw on the way), I'm glad I stayed off the road. Better safe so I can ski another day.
