Question: Need to get skis

Skierchick

I am an expert skier that loves to ski fast on groomed, back country in powder, and steep. I do some moguls but can't stay all day on them. I have Volant Machettis (sp) and Dynastars from several years ago. I have skied on Soloman and Rossignol but I have been looking at a few pairs. Please help me suggest some. I Ski in Colorado on the big mountains. I need an all mountain ski that I can ski on crud, ice, powder, groomed, and moguls.

I looked online and found the Rossignol Scratch Girl BC Skis Womens but after speaking with one of my friends who let me know she had them, they are not very stable when you go fast. I NEED my ski to be stable with speed. Then I was thinking about the K2 Tough Luv but it doesn't look like you all gave them good reviews. Please help suggest a few pairs to look at. I will probably get last year's model because it is cheaper but need help ASAP!:noidea:

First, welcome to the site! I'm also in Colorado and just itchin to get started this season!

Although I haven't skied them the Volkl Aura is much loved around here and would fit well within your needs. It's hard to find a ski that excels in all the areas you list though.

Any of the Volkls will be happy to assist you in getting your speed fix!

The Karma (87mm) or Aura (94 mm) will both fit the bill for everything but ice - go longer than you'd expect. However, both are getting hard to find and even harder to get a good deal on. :(

Also look at the Nordica Hellcat which will excel on ice as well. Be prepared to be had-charging all day on it, though....it requires muscle and excellent technique to get the most out of it.

I have reviews of all 3 skis (and others) in the review section.

I just picked up a pair of this year's Head Wild Ones. Can't give you a review just yet. They are described as being 50/50 piste/off piste with a 81 waist. Are supposed to handle just about everything and are a fast advanced/expert ski. I wanted something that would handle crude and modest powder but also would perform in the bumps - just like your description! My husband has the Head Monster and he really likes them. Both the Monster and Wild One have the "liquidmetal" which my husband says makes the ski lively but also dampness the ski when needed. I was also looking at other possibilities, but chose the Wild One because I got a great deal at Colorado Ski & Golf. Retail they're about $900 but got this year's model for $589. Picked up new bindings for $99.
No matter what ski you decide on, check out Colorado Ski & Golf - they're having their big sale right now and you can get some awesome deals on last year's and this year's skis.
