Need New Skis...

Hi Everyone,

I randomly happened upon this site while I was researching some skis. I've been in the process of upgrading my equipment and have decided it's time for some new skis. I recently upgraded my boots to a pair of Salomon Rush 9 (and am very happy with them- amazing what a good fitting pair of boots can do!). I've been reading some reviews of other posts but thought I would throw out my stats and see what people may recommend (im making a list to demo). I'm 24 years old, 5'9", 170 lbs, Advanced skiier. I live in Maine and primarily ski the east (and try to trip it out west once a year) so I'm primarily skiing on hard pack. I ski primarily groomed but am always up for powder and a few moguls here and there. I ski about 15-20 times per year and am looking to take it to the next level. I'm currently skiing on a pair of Atomic Beta Carvs (probably about 6 or so years old) and would really like to invest in a new pair of skis. I've demoed the K2 one luv and thought it was alright, but not necessarily looking to stick with K2s. Looking at demoing something from the Volkl Attiva series and maybe Elan (the guy at the ski shop recently suggested Wave Magic).

Anyone have any ideas on some good all mountain skis for the northeast?

Thanks!!

Kelly

I just got the Wave Magics this year and like them. Can't be much help with a review, though, as I have nothing to compare them to, and they're only the third pair of skies I've ever had.

I can tell you that I feel a lot better on them than my old ones (which were about 6 years old, too) and my husband says I look more confident and go a lot faster!

I've liked the Elan skis I've demoed. If you are an advanced skier, however, you should be looking at the Wave Spice (wide waist) or the Speed Magic (narrow waist). The Wave Magic will be too soft. The Elan website has a good ski selector. I'd also recommend the Nordica Olympia Victory as a good all-around eastern ski.

Well....you commented on the K2's....so....I won't go there. (I'm a K2 Girl) :D

I just bought a pair of the Head Sweet Phat Thangs....and I'm really excited about them. (They are a Pow ski.....but apparently have the ability to carve a little as well.)

Next year I'm looking into the Tough Luvs and MAYBE the Phat Luvs for another Pow Ski!

I've just purchased Atomic Foxy Mama's. (Review coming soon) So far has been a great ski for the variable NE conditions.

The Foxy's would be a good choice. Great here in the east and really useable out west too. They are based on the Metron design. They are heavy to tote around though. But solid under foot. Speed Magic for a true craver. All second the Victory too. Also you might want to look at the Origin from Salomon.

Not knowing how it is in the east (I ski in California), I can't say how the Salomon Origins would perform for you, but I just got them and absolutely love them. I skied one day so far with them where it was hardpack, icy in spots, and they were great....they have wonderful grip. I hate skiing in these conditions and avoid it where I can, but I felt fine on the Origins that day. On great days they are absolutely fabulous. I put a review in the review thread. Graphics are a bit strange at first, but they've grown on me now.
