Hey all. I'm planning a camping trip up to the White's for Memorial Day week... but I'm hearing that there still may be too much snow. Wanted to get an update from the locals and any guesses if you think camping will be a good idea or should I book a cabin? Thx :snow:

Depends on your intended elevation. There isn't much snow below around 2000 ft. Any idea just where you're headed, more specifically? I might be able to hunt some website info, at best (sorry  ) - it's cooler right now in the region than it was the last 2 weeks in April. Anything can happen between now and Memorial Day weekend, but where you camp is elevation-dependent where snow's concerned.

Yeh my hubby and I are very familiar w/the Whites.. we have been hiking there for over 10 years.

We plan on camping at Tripoli Rd.. most websites are pretty much saying it's too soon to tell if the camping will be open. We are thinking about hiking Tripyramid, but only as a day hike and then go back to Tripoli where the tent will not have to be carried on our backs.

Things that concern us = will Tripoli be open and ready for memorial day? Will it be camping in a swamp? We are prepared w/crampons and snow shoes if needed for hikes. We will be purchasing gaiters and new rain coats

I would recommend visiting AlpineZone - the forums. This board is specifically for "northeast mountain adventure". The have skiing and hiking forums and if you don't see information on the area you're specifically interested in I'd post and ask. Great people there (I still post on occassion) and lots of great info to be had.

it's www.alpinezone.com
