Need More Ski Friends :(

Is anyone in the same kind of situation as me?

I am absolutely addicted and in love with skiing.
I try to go every single weekend...usually on Sundays, and
take as many weekend trips during the season as possible.

When schedule permits --I take advantage and book longer trips.

Now, I luckily was able to get a few people into skiing but in reality--I can only count on one person to come along...and even then it's not as frequent as I'd like. There are lots of reasons ranging from schedules conflicting, wanting to save money, work, etc. I don't want to turn into that overbearing pushy "ski-nazi" in my friends' life--but at the same time, I can't help but feel crushed when NOBODY can come for a day trip with me. While I don't mind skiing alone....it's the 2 hour drive I like to have company for.

I don't know what the real point of this post is (haha)...I guess it was triggered because I was planning on going skiing this Sunday (it's going to be beautiful out) and the person I was originally going to go with is now saying she can't, and I just find myself desperately seeking more ski obsessed friends! =P I feel so juvenile writing this--I don't mean to sound bratty....

Can anybody relate? I'm in NYC so it's pretty tough to find die-hard skiers (or boarders) here. Or at least it seems that way within my circle.

I frequently end up skiing alone even though I am in a skiing mecca. Usually it's because my friends and I are skiing different mountains, can't seem to sync up on the mountain or I just need some time to myself. I enjoy skiing both alone and with people depending on my mood but lately I've needed some breathing room due to stressful coaching days.

Can you look around for a ski club? Or maybe pop on over to Epic where I believe there are a number of NYC people that might be up for meeting on the mountain?

Dani -- I think we all hear you. Some of us are completelyl obsessed and our girlfriends just don't get it. My best friends -- are complete girly girls that have never even seen a ski lift.

But, the place where I find cool people to ski with, seriously, is riding the singles line (do they have those back east??). I've met so many fun people just on the lift. If I think they are worth my time, I'll take a run with them. If not, after the run, I'll jump in the singles line again for round II. Give it a shot!

I'll check out epic...and I think I will go skiing alone this weekend...The drive might be lonely but I'm sure it'll be worth it in the end!

Thanks for not making me feel irrational

You've come to the right place!
In fact, if you go to the upper right hand corner and go to Ski Diva's blog, you'll see that this was, in fact, what inspired her to start this forum to begin with - because she didn't have enough people - make that WOMEN - to ski with. And I think that's the case with many, if not most, of us.

I've done lots and lots of solo skiing, especially weekdays, over the last 6 years or so. Nothing will ever diminish my great passion for this sport. But the social days are fun, too. And important. Sometimes take a bit of participation and a little time before things start materializing, but I know there are quite a few NY metro people who are getting out.

Try a post on "Meet on the Hill" and maybe a NY group will start to form for at least one day - then who knows, it could become a regular thing! The A-Basin thing got going just because someone asked about where to go for spring conditions - thread got totally hijacked by divas planning a GTG (which is still on!).

We're all starting to get regional little groups together - and soon comes the long-planned and anticipated Solitude trip! Looks like about 14 traveling from afar, and at least half a dozen local SLC divas meeting up with them over the course of several days.

I wind up doing lots of skiing with "the guys." I love the guys - DH, other pals, co-workers, etc. But the last time I had a female skiing friend?? Not until now.

Nothing bratty whatsoever in your post, fellow diva. You've underscored the very reason this forum got started from Day One. Welcome to our crazy world! Even though many of us have not yet met in person, we have this forum and the opportunity to make it happen.

They have 'em here, but not everywhere. This Sunday was the only time this season that I actually needed to use the singles line. But, on the other hand, last season, I met a woman who became one of my closest friends on this line. It helped that she had just started work in my office 2 weeks earlier!

I so wish that I could relate, but I'm a Colorado Native and have not had a tough time to find someone. Like Robyn said, though, I have skied alone in the past. Not a real possibility for me now, but when I have, it was fun and a blast!

It's sometimes MORE fun to ski alone! Just breathe deeply and enjoy the fresh air!

Ps....I REALLY love NYC! It's the best! You're lucky! :D

Where do you go skiing on Sundays?

I normally split my time between NJ and NE. I have more ski pals in New England and often end up with day trips by myself when I'm in NJ (sometimes I catch up with SueNJ). Taking the winter off from work, so I ski more midweek these days :ski2: We should try to ski somewhere. PM me if you want to try to connect one Sunday.

Haha...I am getting a little tired of it and have been contemplating for a while to move out West....specifically Colorado

What the h*ll are you waiting for? Let's see, if you decide now you could be here in a couple of months and catch the end of the season at A-Basin. Then it's a summer of mountain biking, camping and hiking before next season starts, usually mid-October.

So, when's the housewarming party?:ROTF:

Usually Blue Mountain, PA on Sundays.
I have yet to try Mountain Creek in NJ (I went years ago when it was
Vernon Valley) because I hear too many horror stories (very icey, crowded, etc)...Do you ski there at all?

Winter off from work?! I wish I had that luxury! ;)

I lived in NYC (which I adore) for a lot of years and have NEVER regretted the move to Colorado. You only have one life, so make the most of it!

Haha you all are great...and horrible (in a good way) at the same time
I have already impulsively planned a trip out there for April...if I fall in love with the place(which I think I will)...I just may start to seriously plan to at least relocate for a year or two  Change is good!

My friend is out there now and absolutely LOVES it....

Whenever I know I'm going to be skiing by myself, I make sure I've got plenty of good tunes to listen to during the car ride to the mountain--music that will get me pumped and primed for an awesome day of skiing.

If there's still snow left when I get back from UT in mid-March, I'd be happy to hook up with you on the weekend to ski!

Mountain Creek is about 25 minutes away, but I won't ski there. In the past I'd ski a day or two, I'd get there early and do laps until the crowds arrived. I refuse to go there this year -- they changed my favorite part of the mountain to a park, which means riding the damn cabriolet to ski. Too crazy to take my skis off every run. This year I've skied at Hidden Valley which is small and uncrowded and five mins closer to the house.

Haven't been to Blue yet, but was planning to go next week before I head to VT for a few weeks. Skied in PA for first time last week at Shawnee.

I usually go to Mountain Creek, but went to Blue Mtn for the first time last weekend. I'm going out again this Sunday, but I haven't decided where. Mtn Creek is crowded, but then again I've never been there early, so I can't compare it to BM (I was there for the morning shift).

I can TOTALLY relate to you. I feel the same way! It's by sheer luck that I got my 2 friends to join me out this weekend. Out of my circle, I'm the only one who would be willing to forego chores (or anything, basically!) to hit the slopes. We're not a crew with much experience (one beginner, 2 intermediates) but if you'd like to meet up with us on Sunday, PM me!

I can relate! I have a lot of friends who ski, but they are all married or coupled up, so we never ski together. I ski by myself mostly. I really love it when I can get a friend or two to come along for a day! It's so much more fun.

Play--I went to Shawnee a few weeks ago(The Sunday before President's day)...Probably my least favorite of any place I've skied the last few years! How did you like it?

Snowbunny-- my "crew" is very beginner as well...and my favs are blue runs...but I'm happy on greens too with company- if they are not horribly crowded!

Thank you everyone for all the responses, support, and offers to ski!
Made me feel 1000xs better and less alone out there

Shawnee was nice enough. Not terribly challenging. Mostly I liked the convenience. It was school vacation so I was hesitant to go anywhere but had to get out. I stayed mostly on their black runs (more like a blue) which were empty since I think most of the people there were beginners and scared of anything labeled black.

I'm also trying to ski as many different mountains in my life as possible. Shawnee was my 57th mountain and my 9th new one this season. Also a reason I'd like to ski at Blue.
