Need help picking out K2 skis

GVG

Diva in Training
I've been thinking about getting skis, and the K2 brand appealed to me the most. I have been having trouble though picking out which ski would be best for me, so some advice would be great.

I am a novice/intermediate skier, skiing on greens and easy blues, I am going to take more lessons next ski seasons so I am going to improve a bit. I ski in Killington, the conditions vary, sometimes the snow is powder, sometimes packed, at times icy, so I need skis that can perform well in many conditions and be forgiving.

Happy new year! :D

First, welcome to the forum, GVG! Always great to have a new Diva on board!

Second, why have you limited your search to K2? Have you looked at anything else? Done any demos? There are lots of great skis out there, and it seems you'd do yourself a better service investigating different manufacturers, instead of limiting yourself to one.

Do you need to buy skis right now?

At your current level, you'll progress quickly when taking lessons and will shortly outgrow anything you buy now. Instead, rent or demo skis for now and buy after you've progressed to skiing blues and easy black confidently. At that point, your choice will last you a while longer and you'll have a much better idea of which ski will be a good fit for you.

Renting and demoing all season can get just as expensive as buying a modest pair of skis...

I don't know how much help i can be since I just started skiing a year ago. But I ski Killington, and ski all blue trails and sometimes easy blacks, my favs are "Bunnybuster", and "Chute", and the only blacks i go on is "Royal Flush" and "Spillway" i nearly died on "Cascade", a very scary double diamond with lots of icy moguls.

I'm also looking to buy an intermediate ski too( i have some very advanced Volkl AC3 skis) and i've been getting advice from ski shops and these boards and my demo list includes these skis, maybe you should try these too:

K2 True Love (stiffer than other skis)
Elan Black Magic (hot looking skis)
Atomic Hot Minx ( probably too soft for Killington)
Fischer Vision Exhale
Dynastar Exclusive 9 (the reviews look great)

But last year when i could only ski greens and easy blue i tried a Saloman Siam 5 and it immediately propelled me to the next level, in 2 days i was skiing all blues, and by day 3 a black. That might be a good ski and its not too expensive.

Dont' know what to tell you, killington is a funny mountain, moguls everywhere, ice, powder, crud, groomed literrally all on one trail. Good Luck in your search.

Thanks for the ski suggestions! It's tricky finding a pair of skis for Killington since the conditions are soooo broad.

Oh, congratulations getting down Cascade alive. I've seen that trail while on the gondola and it looks scary!

Thanks- i don't plan on going on cascade again anytime soon.

Oh another suggestion, i think you definitely need an all mountain ski for killington since the conditions are so variable. I do see many women on Killington skiing the True Loves- I am going to demo that tomorrow and will post back my reviews.

Have you considered skiing at Okemo. Conditions are so much better for learning.
